Let's Bee Social # 147

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

Announcing the incredible new Sew Fresh Quilt Bee!

In commemoration of Canada's upcoming 150th anniversary in 2017, Sew Fresh Quilts will be hosting a quilt bee. This SEW FRESH QUILT BEE will be our way of taking part in "Canada's Big Quilt Bee". Our quilt blocks will be made into quilts for donation to the Ronald McDonald House charity.

For more details on the Canadian Quilter's Association Canada-wide Quilting Bee click here. As participants, our hive we will be helping to contribute blocks towards their goal of trying to make 1000 quilts for kids at Ronald McDonald Houses of Canada. I am partnering with Rita of Fabric Please! for this very worthwhile cause.

To participate in this online Quilting Bee, we will be making slab blocks. As a shop sponsor, Rita will be supplying me with the fabric required to make the slab blocks in return for promoting her store during the Bee. She will be carrying the entire With Glowing Hearts line that is available for purchase here.

All the necessary information and instructions for the slab block can be found here.

The SEW FRESH QUILT BEE will run until May 17, 2017. The deadline for mailing blocks and unfinished tops is May 30th. Mailing information can be found here. You DON'T have to be Canadian to participate. But you do have to be prepared to mail your blocks to this Canadian address.

Each month I will be posting about my progress and will be providing a continuing linky party where participants will have the opportunity to link up and share their progress, as well. You can join in the linky party each time you have made blocks. You can link up from a blog post, Flickr photo, or Instagram post. That gives you seven opportunities to join in the PARTY!

Participants will eligible for giveaway prizes, supplied by Fabric Please!

Sounds wonderful Lorna. Of all the bloggers I know you would be the one I would expect to do this. I will of course promote it for you but I don't think I will be able to get the fabrics in the UK to make any blocks. I need to have a think about this one, sending blocks to Canada won't be an issue, now who do I know who would send me a piece of fabric.........

Lorna, This is a great Guilt bee to join up with. Ome problem for me, where can I get the anniverary fabric they require for the blocks> I checked Tita's shop and nothing came up under "Canada 150 Anniversary". I try and do something like this once a year. Would like this to be it.
Thanks for any help in locating this fabric. It's not calling for much to be used so shipping shouldn't be too much.

What a great idea for a quilting Bee! I'm sure it will be a huge success and cannot wait to see what comes from the slab blocks!

I am in! I was just looking at my scrap bins and the lids for greens and blues no longer close. Honestly, they are overflowing. I will order some of the Canadian fabric and add this to the project list. What a wonderful community and thank you for bringing this opportunity to us. Slab blocks are perfect -- fun and simple to make.

Time to grab your button!

What a great cause and what gorgeous quilts are going to be made throughout this Bee. As Kate said earlier it will probably be difficult to get the fabric over here in the UK. Just to clarify does it all need to be the fabric line specified or is it just a little bit to be used and then other fabric from stash? I would happily make some and mail some slabs, or even a top, to Canada but would need to get hold of some fabric first .... Let me think - I am even thinking that if there were a few of us in the UK who were interested that we may be able to split postage and custom charges .... or find someone who can mail it as used fabric so no customs apply!!

That is such a neat idea. I'm going to try and make quilts for the local children's hospital before Christmas.

This is a great idea. I'll have to pop over to read more about it.
