Let's Bee Social #234

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

Here's a friendly email I received last week from Tamera.

Hi Lorna,

I wanted to make a special quilt for my daughter's 30th birthday.  I showed her some pictures of nice quilts - stars, pinwheels, 9 patches, etc. - but she found a picture of your Dog Gone Quilt online and she just had to have one! The only catch was that she wanted them to look like all the dogs in her life.  So began my journey of modifying your wonderful pattern.

I chose to do the smaller squares and added frames and borders to make it the final 54 x 63 inches. I gathered lots of ideas from others who had posted their quilt on your blog and added my own ideas.  I ended up with 8 pieced dog faces, 14 pieced paw prints, 8 pieced bones (that I put the dog's names on), and one pieced heart. One of our dogs is named Lorna!!!! :D   For fun, I've enclosed a picture of the real dogs versus the quilted dogs so you can see the comparisons.

I hope you enjoy my end result! Thank you so very much for this fantastic quilt-a-long and thanks to everyone for sharing ideas and inspiring me!

When I asked Tamera if it was okay to share her quilt and story with you all, she said, "Yes! Please share my story and pictures! Let me know if you want me to send more pictures of the individual dogs or components for you to look at. I had a lot of fun with this quilt and look forward to following your blog and doing more of your so-very clever and fun patterns! This is my favorite quilt I've ever done and my daughter LOVES it!!!!! ❤ My 25 year old son wants me to make him a pillow with his dog on it!  I will use the larger face pattern for that! I hope my story inspires others to have fun, go wild, and be daring with their sewing! Thanks again, Tamera

Let's Bee Social #233

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

Here's a friendly email I received last week from Emily. Gotta love a quilter with a big heart who just wants to share what's fun and for such a worthy cause....

Hi Lorna! I made your Smitten Kitten pattern this week and presented it to my quilt group for the Cincinnati, OH Ronald McDonald House. The ladies in my group liked it so much, they wanted me to show them how to make these little kitties! Would you mind if I shared this pattern with a handful of women so that we can make some quilts for the kids at RMH? Thank you for your consideration and this adorable pattern! Emily

This week you can find the Smitten Kitten pattern here in my shop.

Last week I mentioned my participation in the New Blogger Blog Hop back in 2013 and then shared the shout out to Molli Sparkles spurned on by that T shirt second hand store find.

Another one of our "classmates" from that hop is Kris. We've been keeping in touch pretty regular since then. Although Kris is more active on Instagram here....

Please click here to meet Kris where she blogs at Sew Sunshine and take the time to leave a friendly Let's Bee Social HELLO on her latest post.....

Let's Bee Social #232

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social! Happy, happy, happy 4th of July!

Lovin' my summer so far. And you?

Do any of you remember waaaaayyv back when there was a New Blogger Blog Hop back in 2013? I certainly do. That was the year I was introduced to a whole group of other new quilting bloggers who were just starting out.

One of those fellow new bloggers was Molli Sparkles.

Did I hear you say, "Molli who?"

Molli Sparkles honey. That's who.

Click here to meet Molli Sparkles and please take the time to leave a friendly Let's Bee Social HELLO on his latest post.....

So I was out shopping at the Value Village second hand store and came across this "one of a kind" t shirt. I thought.... Hmmmm.... Why not? I'm getting this shirt and posting to instagram to give a shout out to my old "classmate".

Let's Bee Social #230

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social! I know things have been kinda lacking around here since I made the move to my new home. Not much quilting going on here yet. And I am so grateful to those of you who write in to share your photos of the quilts you have made using my patterns.

This week I was planning on using a link to my Instagram post that I shared. The big news is that I have applied for and am now working a full time day job in nearby Stratford. And still running the Sew Fresh Quilts Etsy shop in the evenings. However, Instagram was down when I was preparing this post. And I was left kinda stunned. But also glad that I had not yet given up on blogging.

Meanwhile the other end of Facebook is still working...

Here is a post shared by Tammy Howell to the Sew Fresh Quilts Facebook page!

I'm sure everything will return to quilting normal for me when more of the everyday life things also become more normal. The new normal. Actually the new normal is suiting me just fine. Not only have I, at the age of 52 and having been out of the "work force" for 19 years, gotten a job... I have also lost 35 pounds since my new normal began on February 21st. Ya me!

And life known as the new normal is making me happier than ever....

Let's Bee Social #229

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social! This week Irmgard Jacob sent me this photo of her sweet Giraffes in a Row quilt. Irmgard wrote to share her finish and said, " I finished my giraffe quilt, all hand quilted with a cozy flannel backing. You can use this photo if you wish. Best regards, Irmgard."

I just can't get enough of those sweet faces!

And the hand quilting makes this quilt look super soft and snuggly!

Let's Bee Social #228

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social! This week Beverly Greve sent me this photo of her sweet Little Lamb Laying quilt top. Beverly had contacted me quite a while ago requesting a lamb pattern. and then I came up with a few different poses for the lamb. I made my quilt using the Little Lamb Leaping, which you can see here.

I'm off to prepare for my trunk show in Midland Ontario tonight. Wish me luck!

Hopefully you've had more time for stitching than I have!
