GREAT BIG giveaway - Day 1

Welcome to the first day in this week of the GREAT BIG giveaway!!!

When it comes to labeling your finished quilts...
How do you fare?

Do you bother to label them at all?
How about totes and pouches?

got my quilt labels from IKAPRINT. There is always a link to their site at the end of my finishes posts and I do receive a small commission on all sales using this link. Thank you to anyone who has ever used it. Every little bit helps!

It was back in July of 2014 that I received my first order of 100 quilt labels from the IKAPRINT store. It was in this post that I shared how much I loved my new labels and showed off how they looked on a newly finished GenX-Aztec quilt. I used my 33rd label from that 100 label order when I finished my Zany ZebraZ quilt and had our first label giveaway. The Little Blooms in Kona finish brought me to a total of 44 labels used.

Now 100 labels may seem like an awful lot of labels. If you only use them for larger projects like quilts, they will last you a long, long time. I used the remaining last few labels from my first order just this past week when I added them to the back of some mini mini quilts. And then started into my second order of 100 labels when I made even more mini mini quilts!

I ordered the 1 1/2" size. This refers to the width of the label. And the 5/8" refers to the height. So when folded the labels are a little bigger than 1/4" and the "sew fresh quilts" shows from the front. The "by Lorna McMahon" is only seen if you flip the label up.

These labels are made by Fatih Demirtas of IKA Products. Fatih is based in Paris, France.
She make the most handsome and stylish bags and totes. And blogs about them here on her site.

You see..., I don't make the labels. I had been providing a storefront for ordering the labels from my site. But now Fatih has an updated site and all the labels are ordered directly through her.

To celebrate, she has generously offered to sponsor a giveaway that includes 100 labels of your choice and includes the cost of shipping!

To order labels and get a 5% discount

Yes, I do make labels for the quilts that are gifts using the fabric that prints through my HP Inkjet. I should follow your lead, however, and apply a label to everything I make. Thanks, Lorna.

I currently am using Lara's Crafted Applique method to label most of my quilts, but I really would love to have some labels to sew into the bindings for some finishes!

I try and label all my quilts. Sometimes I just write a quick note with a fabric pen.

I have either hand printed on the back, or printed onto printable fabric then fused and ironed. Quite a lot of work, printed labels would be fabulous. Bags, wall hangings, a quilt or two, so many places they can go. Another so generous give-away.

I started quilting last fall and just started my 14th quilt. I have been thinking about labeling each before I send it off to a new home. I'm ready to get labels, just need to come up with a name for that label. Thanks for the giveaway, maybe I'll need to come up with that name soon.

I would love these. ..I label, mostly, sometimes um...not as much as I should! Pbstrand@msn.com

I don't usually label them. I always give them a name and tell the recipient what it is called. With a ready made label i would have no excuse not to. x

I label my quilts with small sew on labels, but I love yours with the flap. And I totally agree 100 isn't that much since I use them on nearly every project I finish.

I label show and gifted quilts. Charity quilts usually are request none or something special non descript. Wallhangings and minis I usually sign and date the back.

I label my quilts with a label I had made professionally.

I am working on my first quilt ever, it would be quite nice if I could label it !

I'm terrible about labeling my quilts.

Karin said...

Decent labels would make life so much easier. I do label my quilts however usually have to wait until I have got enough labels for one printable fabric sheet.

Susan L. said...

I do label most of my quilts. I usually just sign my name & the date on smaller projects. I would love the pre-printed labels to put on everything though.

Patti said...

I always think about making a label but when it comes to the end, I never do. I just want to get it finished and delivered. It would be great to have labels to just pop on when I'm binding!

Cheryl said...

I label my quilts but this is a much easier way to do it. Thanks!

I have some old labels I purchased a long time ago, but do not use anymore. They are not what I would use today and have been looking new ones. This would be perfect!

Hi Lorna,
Some of my quilts are labeled, whereas I had the Longarmer embroider the label w/a sentiment, date, etc.
Tis my intention to label each WIP. Thank you for the opportunity.

(Oh, I am SO bad about labeling! I really want to change that!)
I am usually so pressed for time as a quilt nears completion, that I don't take the extra step of putting a label on it...
These sew-in labels would be a great solution to my problem!

I sometimes label, sometimes don't. I need to do a better job at that! I have admired these printed labels for a long while and really need to get some!

Crafty Tokyo Mama said...

I try to add the date in somewhere, either by embroidery in the design, or by machine either in the quilting or along the binding. It is quicker than making a label. IkaPrints labels look pretty snazzy though, and faster and easier than embroidering!

Alice Ronne said...

I haven't used labels for the few small quilts I've made. Now is the time to change. They would be a nice touch to the bags/totes I've been making. Thanks for the giveaway! akronne17@gmail.com

I always label my quilts, almost always label table runners, and rarely label purses, although I have labeled a few. I always enjoy seeing what you have made and the use of your labels. :)

Subee said...

I do label things I make. I designed my own logo and bought some iron on labels for bags that I make, but have not used those on quilts. I usually make a label for quilts using the alphabet font on my sewing machine. The iron on labels usually need stitched down to be certain they stay on. I would love some of these labels.

I already left one comment but don't see it in the list, so trying again. I label some but really need to get the rest of my quilts labeled for my kids and grandkids to know which ones I've made and where the other ones came from! I'm now an email follower in addition to google dashboard.

Little Quiltsong said...

Thank you for sharing this info on your labels. I usually add a label on the back of my quilts by making an extra block and embroidering info on it, but many times I get lazy and just omit this step. These little labels would be perfect. Thank you for this giveaway chance.

Carole @ From My Carolina Home said...

I try to label all of them, after all, in 100 years they may still be around.

Jan Briggs said...

I try to label my quilts, especially when they are going to someone else. I usually just hand embroider a patch with some info on it, but if I were to start producing large amounts of quilts (which I would like to) this would be out of the question! I will be checking out Ikaprint labels.

Liz F said...

Every time I start a quilt I promise myself that I'll attach a label but by the time I finish the binding I've neglected to do it again. Having labels printed and on hand might be a great solution especially if I kept them in my binding bin.

Liz Horgan said...

I label my quilts in a corner on the back with a triangle(fold a square piece in half). I sew a length of binding on the folded end and sew the other sides in place when sewing the binding onto the quilt. Then I hand sew down the binding on the folded edge to the quilt back. Then I hand write on the triangle with permanent marker.

Kathy said...

Depending on who I make my quilt for is how I label it. If it is a family member or close friend I will embroider a label. If I'm making a commissioned quilt - I use my Ikaprint labels that I ordered. :)

mumbird3 said...

Awesome labels! I have been ogling them for awhile to add a touch of professionalism to my quilts. My current labels are hand lettered with a pig a pen and look a little clumsy! churcae(at)auburn(dot)edu

Yes, I do label my quilts. I use fabric that I iron to freezer paper, and a permanent marker. I put the name of the quilt, handmade and hand quilted by me, and the year on each one.

Yes, I've gotten really good about labeling in the past few years. I even labeled a quilt I inherited that my grandma made - perhaps in the 30s. I wish I knew more about the quilt and that really spurred me on to labeling the things I make. Most generally I use my embroidery machine to make my labels. I have always admired your labels - great designing.

Yes; I always label my quilts. My friend, Lou, used her embroidery machine to make several decorative labels -- I just fill in all the details (name of quilt, for whom/why it was made, and my name and city) with a permanent ink art pen. Lovely! (lynnstck(at)yahoo.com)

Yes I make labels for my quilts. I usually put a pretty rubber stamped image on a square of muslin and write the relevant info (date, occasion, etc.) with a Pigma micron marker) then I handstitch it to the back of the quilt. I don;t label my bags and totes but these labels would be wonderful for that! It would give it a nice professional-like finish.

I have a small supply (50, I think) of labels that I ordered from another company. I like them, but think I'd like to try IKA labels next time I order. I've used my current ones on the projects I'm most happy with and projects that I give as gifts.

I am diligent in labeling all my quilts. I've seen your labels on your posts and really like them, but have been hesitant to move to something similar because I like to add more personal information to the quilt. I especially like to make baby quilts, and I add name and birth date. However, I have some more generic labels that I had made for the quilts I donate (made by a seller on etsy) and I have been thinking about using those on all my quilts, so the timing of your giveaway is lovely :) I went and looked on the IKAPRINT site and her labels are really fantastic.

Fun!!! I do label the quilts that I give away, this would be awesome!

I was so excited to finish my first quilt (just this past March) that I definitely labeled it - baby's name, birthdate, everything! kathleendotlutzatcomcastdotnet

I try to remember to make labels for my quilts...especially the ones I am giving as a gift. I usually handwrite them.

I am soooo bad about labeling my quilts. I've thought about getting something like what you use for a long time so it would be great to win the giveaway. Thanks.

I don't currently label my quilts, but I'm definitely going to be looking into this now that I know how inexpensive it would be!

Sadly, I have yet to label any of my quilts, however it's something I have been looking to remedy. Since I only hand quilted them until recently, the volume of completed quilts hasn't been large, and all but one are still accessible to me. To win this giveaway would allow me to tag the existing quickly and have them on hand for my upcoming machine quilted projects. -- Jenny Meeker

I do label my quilts, but with a pen. They don't look nearly as nice as these. cknapp3626(at)sbcglobal(dot)net

Yes, I label quilts. I use the method where you fold a 5" square of fabric in half diagonally and sew it into a back corner of the quilt. I hand write my information.

I didn't always label but now I've been doing that more, especially when I give a quilt as a gift. It helps people remember when and where the quilt came to them.

I was taught to always label quilts, so yes, I do, and sometimes I'll even label table runners (if I remember!) Thanks for the opportunity to win such a great prize.

I always have the best intentions of labeling my quilts, but in the end I've only ended up labeling a few. I really need to get better at that!

I don't usually label the things I make. I am determined to start doing it.

I label my quilts, depending on the quilt the label is embroidered or just written on.

I just ran out of the custom labels I had made on Etsy. Sometimes I just use a Pigma pen and write a message on!

I label some of my quilts, but I'm not consistent about doing it. These labels are so cute, I'd get everything labeled in a heartbeat!

MaryBeth said...

I won't say I have labeled every quilt I've ever made, but most of them.

I don't label my quilts currently, this looks like it would make it easy.

I don't label my quilts and struggle to decide what to put on labels because I don't have a blog or business. I know I should start though.

I label my quilts in a really hit and miss sort of way. Sometimes I make a label, sometimes I don't. I would really like to change that! 😀

I do label my quilts with hand written labels. I have been looking for some printed labels to use instead, though. These look really nice! Thanks for the chance to win them!

I am very sad to say that I have only labeled a couple of my quilts. Thanks for an awesome giveaway.

I just started quilting and have not officially completed my first two projects. Binding and washing is all that is left. My wife has encouraged me to get labels and I likely will if I don't win these. Great post and I really had never thought about labels to be honest with you. But I recently thought about doing some
Table runners or other small projects and this
Makes me realize they could be handy
