YES! I did manage to get this one quilted in time for the show!
I spent last Friday and Saturday at the International Plowing Match Quilt Show in Harriston, Ontario. You can read about the results here. I was so excited... And also a bit nervous.....
So during the week prior, to alleviate my nervousness, I cut into some fabric and began making my way through the Kissy Fishy pattern. At last report for the Let's Bee Social, I noted that I had a finished top.
And YES!!! I managed to get this one basted, quilted and bound just in time for the show!
The "boy fish" were made using some fabrics I could not resist purchasing last year, which have been used previously in my original Dog Gone Cute quilt. These are Rain Drops fabrics in Blue and Sky from the H2O collection by Timeless Treasures from the Row by Row 2015.
The "girl fish" were made using the Season's Best honeycomb print by Kim Schaefer for Andover paired up with this grid print from the Best.Day.Ever! collection by April Rosenthal of Prairie Grass Patterns for Moda.
This is the first scrappy backing I've made in an awful long time. I chose this blue and white Gridworks print by Deborah Edwards of Northcott Fabrics, and did have enough yardage that I could have made a pieced backing. But I did not want to try and match up the seam to make the print appear to continue across the full back. So I used some remainders from the fish fabrics to piece the left side of the backing.
And the binding came up a few inches shy of the required length. So I threw on a piece of the Season's Best honeycomb print. And I really like how this little bit gives a little punch to the dark frame and adds to the scrappy feel of this quilt. Binding is Holiday Magic for Henry Glass Fabrics - the same fabric used for binding my original Black Birds quilt.
We finally got some rain. Makes the fish happy....
And has brightened up our lawn. The grass is now green and lush!
And I think the corn is much happier now too.
The "Kissy Fishy" quilt finished at 52" x 52"

FARM REPORT:
Finally!!!! Bessie finally gave birth to her calf on Wednesday. It's a GIRL!!!!
Because she was born so much later than all the other calves, we have separated mom and babe into a pen in the barn, away from the reach from the others. The other calves were all born in June! You can read about them here and here.
Nature can be so cruel. You see those bigger calves will ride on this sweet little one and wear her down. She needs to grow a bit to have a fighting chance!

Here you can see Bessie is very protective. And is doing a wonderful job of keeping her wee babe clean and spotless.

Love the blue added to your wavy lines, beautiful backing and binding to go with a fantastic front. Your wee calf, what about either Faith or Hope? She is the essence of nature, and all good things in the universe, and has a delightful face and colouring.Good idea to keep them separate for a while. And I'm so glad the show went well.

I'd name her Bonnie - for a bonnie lass - she is so cute!! Your fishy quilt turned out so cute. Great job - especially sewing under pressure - I find that hard! Love the fabrics you used and the quilting - love that blue you inserted!
Congrats on the quilt finish. Fun looking pattern and I like the extra line of blue splattered in there. I'd suggest Robin 'cause it rhymes with bobbin!

I just LOVE your Kissy Fishy quilt, Lorna! These fabrics are totally cute for your design!! And your quilting is spot on... it does feel like they are swimming in the water!! The wavy lines create the feeling of movement, don't they? This brings the fish to life.
I am working on the backing of my own Kissy Fishy quilt now, and can't wait to put it together. It is really a fun quilt to make!! Everyone in my house smiles when they walk by it!

I really love how adding a single blue wavy line every few lines gives the quilting a water look. So very cool! And what a sweet tiny baby girl. It's amazing how quickly animals grow. Andy is already 2 1/2 months old?

I love the kissy fish pattern! The blue line in your quilting really gives the water effect. I would name the new calf Virginia because she is a Virgo.

Seriously Lorna, I know nothing about cows except that yours are the cutest! Of course the babies are darling but that mama, Bessie - she's really beautiful! I'm sticking with Buffy for a name suggestion. It will be fun to hear what you actually choose.

This just might be my favorite pattern to date! I love those kissing fish and the quilting is perfect for them. The scrappy back and dark binding really add to the overall look. As for the little girl, I like Betty's suggestion of Lacy. I had a student named Lacy who was always late to class, so I got a chuckle on that one.
Love the prints you used for the fish. I'm already planning another quilt.
