Dog Gone Cute {redo}

Meet Fluffy. Although I have enjoyed working on this remake of the Dog Gone Cute quilt, Mr. McFluffster says it really is all about him. Because the Dog Gone Cute has been one of my more popular patterns, I wanted to have a sample to hang in the booth next week.

My original large block quilt can be seen here and the mini quilt version was posted here.

This time I decided to change things up. I chose to use two different grey Toscana fabrics for the main patches on the dog faces and instead of using white, I used the Blossom print left over from the backing on the Ay, Chihuahua quilt. That background print, which is Alpine by Moda, was also featured as the boy dog blocks in the Ay, Chihuahua quilt.

If you would like to make a Dog Gone Cute quilt, this is a free quilt along on my blog. The instructions can be found by clicking on the Quilt Alongs tab beneath my blog header.

I used to quilt a lot using plain white Gutermann thread. But now it seems like I am always using this Light Grey Omni from Superior Threads, both on top and in the bobbin. It could be that in the past, most of my quilts had a white background and now I am making a lot of quilts with a grey background. The grey thread plays nicely with all the colours and blends in well.

It has been a super long time since I made a flanged binding. For this finish I chose to use the backing fabric for the accent and the floral print for the main fabric. You can find my Flanged Binding Tutorial here, if you'd like to give it a try. It's a really easy binding method and gives your project a stylish touch.

The sun was brutally bright and tended to make the subtle fabrics in this quilt appear rather washed out. And our lawn is looking really dead because we haven't had any rain for a good long while. However, the Old Hay Wagon likely won't be used for a photo shoot ever again. She's being retired. The last time I used it I thought I was going to die. The sides are both leaning heavily to the one side. It's broken and it's old. I must come up with a new idea for hanging quilts for photos, but for now I am making do with a stick held up on each end by quilt holder helpers.

This "Dog Gone Cute" quilt finished at 60" x 60"
and was the 9th use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

Hi Lorna! You can guess that Dog Gone Cute is my favourite pattern and I want to make it again! You picked beautiful fabrics for this one and the flowery fabric works really nice for the faces! I think I need to get at least one little puppy ...
Have a great weekend! x Teje

Lovely fabrics, super flanged binding ( I use your method for this all the time now) but Mr Fluff, he is the darling of today's photos. I think there is something so very special about ginger boys.

I'm fairly new to quilting and love your designs. I am looking forward to my very first quilt along.

This quilt makes me want to drop everything and just sew another Dog Gone Cute Quilt - this time the big Dog Blocks. Love your quilt and the flanged binding. Love how Fluffy is asking what all the excitement about the quilt is - isn't he the Star of the Show :)?!

I love how fluffy always has his/her butt towards the quilt. Lol. Love the dog quilt. Are you going to make one for us kitty lovers?

This has always been one of my favorite patterns. Those cute little puppies are just so cute. I'm thinking I might need a 60" one to snuggle up with to go along with my wall hanging.

While I think this is one of your cutest patterns, I think Mr. McFluffster is wanting you to make a Cat Faces quilt with him as the model. Because you're right - it is all about him!

Love the flower print with the grays. Though I gotta admit I have yet to see one of these Dog Gone Cute quilts that I'm not in love with! If I could figure out how to shorten (without deleting) a video I'd email you one from a few months ago when Evie rolled over and first saw the sweet puppies I made hanging on the other side of her crib.
Just the other day she spotted the Elephant quilt and reached out for the bird. We just love your quilt patterns!

Dog gone cute is so cute! Now is there any plans in the future for a Mr Fluffy quilt since he says it's all about him? Like those big boys always do, atleast that's what happens here in my house between the big boy and the little girly girl Chihuahua!

My mc fluff bottom surely has taken ownership of that gorgeous quilt!!
I'm finding myself only using that grey thread, too :)
I am so glad to see all going so well, my sis in WA has joined your Bear quilt along!! I can't wait to quilt it for her/you! How cool will that be?!
