It's been more than a month since I have done any sewing. And that is a looooong time!
Last Saturday I led a workshop for the Oakville Quilters' Guild and was asked to do a little demonstration of the wavy line quilting. I brought along a few of the blocks that have been made for testing different quilts I designed and I also brought the paper pieced Geometric Texas. This was a paper pieced block designed by Kristy of Quiet Play Designs.
When I went to Texas for Quilt Market in October, I finally had a chance to meet Kristy in person. She flew in from Australia for the event.
I added white and grey borders to make my block bigger and quilted using my organic wavy lines during the demonstration at the workshop. The backing is some random print I found in my stash and it has a lot of sewing notions and a little love so I thought it would make a cute backing.
When I finished the quilting on this Texas block I decided to make it into a wall hanging to gift to my sister for Christmas. I added corner tabs for hanging and then finished it off with a black binding.
My sister Georgina and I drove down to Texas from Ontario Canada. And it was the first time in over 35 years that we had a chance to hang out together and have some fun. I do hope that we will have a chance to do something like this again, but even if we don't, I want to make sure she remembers our trip for years to come.
We had joked around during our trip about getting a tattoo of Texas and all the states we passed through. But I really think this was a more fitting tribute to our trip and the memories we made along the way.
The "Geometric Texas" quilted wall hanging finished at 19" x 20"
and was the 59th use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

What an awesome gift to commemorate your time together, Lorna. I'm sure she will love it. :)
Beautiful quilt, Lorna! The fabrics you used, are lovely - as is your paper-piecing of this block! So glad you had this time with your sister again.
A great gift for your sister to remember your trip to Texas together!
What a treasure - the mini and the trip! I like the way you framed the Texas block and I love those triangle corners for hanging - just genius!
I love this little quilt. It is beautiful, and crafted by a wonderful friend.
Very pretty quilt, I love it. Your paper piecing is excellent also.
Yes, I like the quilt over a tattoo any day, even of Texas (my home state).
I love how you have turned this beautiful quilt into a memento of a special time. It's a beautiful quilt! Lucky sister!
Love, love, love it! I’ll be there soon, so will definitely put that pattern on the top of my must have list!
Such a great idea and a fun way to always share and remember that trip! My mind did do a bit of a double take, seeing the paperpieced quilt on your blog😊 xo!
Beautiful. A great keepsake of your trip to Texas. I can't believe you drove all that way.
