I occasionally use solids but would say that 95% of my fabric is patterned. x

Chelra said...

I love it all! I'm finding that I really need more solids in my stash for complimentary view of my florals. The majority of my stash was left to me by my grandmother so more variety would be wonderful. Thank you so much for such an amazing opportunity. Love, love, love you!

Lisa J. said...

I mostly use prints but I'm using solids more and more.

BrendaM said...

I like to use a combination of both, depending on the design. I love using 'blenders' that look solid from a distance but have a delicate print when viewed up close.

Catskill Quilter said...

I like to mix in a few solids in every project. I have only made 1 all-solid quilt, and I like it enough that I want to make another one.

Diana said...

I love using both print and solids. Some day I would love to do one with all solids. I think they look just so clean, and fresh.

scottylover said...

I love using prints, but also use a lot of tone-on-tone fabrics for backgrounds. I do have a solid quilt top in the works, but think it will be my one and only all solid top. :)

Lately I've been doing a lot of mixing solids with prints. But I'd love to make an Amish-style solids quilt someday.

I use both prints and solids I could use some low volume because I tend to buy brights

Mara said...

I use both, but really struggle buying and using solids, unless it's just something to frame a print, I prefer pretty prints, hehe.

Pixie Cat said...

I like to use both. I feel like solids give your eyes someplace to rest and help make the prints pop.

Tami said...

I like to use prints and mottled fabrics.

Rebecca said...

It kind of depends on the project. That said, I have a lot more prints in my stash than solids.

I love working with Prints. They are fun to match up.

Cecilia said...

I like to use both! Thanks for the giveaways.

Natureluvr57 said...

I use both....it's like painting: you need the dark to make the light shine and vice versa. The solids really set off the prints and vice versa. Of course there are exceptions to every rule.

Edie said...

I use both. Depends on what I am working on.

Patty said...

I use both!

Jen said...

Those Fusion Illusion fabrics are one of my favorites!
I love printed fabric and tend to work with that the most.
But I love the solid quilts that I see other make.

VickiT said...

It really depends on the project I'm working on. I use both prints and solids. If pushed for one answer, it would probably be prints since I tend to buy more of them that solids.

Emily said...

Prior to about a year ago, I would have said prints with no hesitation. But this year I have been really, really drawn to solids. So my current answer is solids. Though most of my stash is prints.

I love to incorporate solids in my quilting. They provide great color, but also a place for the eye to rest. Also, it can be fun using a solid color for a background, especially an unexpected one like turquoise or coral!

Annette Canonica said...

I love prints and love to use solids for accent. I'm always drawn to the print first!

I'm not too picky...I do enjoy quilting/piecing...I like prints, but ones that aren't too busy. I like orderly prints. Solids are good but without imagination can be antiseptic....I really really really like batiks which kinda offer the best of both worlds.

I use lots of solids. I'm becoming bolder in my print choices, but I don't like big prints. I like a lot of blender, tone-on-tone prints, and I like a lot of contrast between my colors, solids and prints--that way, the block and pattern shine!

I use both, though not always together. Some of my favorite projects are great mixes of solids and prints, while other projects use only solids. I'm trying to think of a project that uses only prints and I'm not sure I have made one of those...that might be a good challenge, to see if I could do that and not end up with something that would induce a migraine or a seizure. ;)

Have never ever sewn with solids, but Lorna is changing my mind!

Carol Andrews said...

I use a lot of prints and solids. I normally choose one focal fabric and then add other complimentary fabrics, both solid and prints from my stash. I love tone on tone prints, small florals, and batiks and find that most of the time they will be my main focal point. Then the rest of my solids and prints seem to just add themselves to the pile for each project!
