Karen forwarded an email to me today, expressing her desire to be a part of the Dog Gone Cute linky party. I am so happy to hear that she has been quilting along and am honoured to be sharing with all of you the following photos and story, as written in the email......
Hi Lorna,
My name is Karen and I live in the UK and I'd like to thank you so much for this quilt along. It is the first time I have ever participated in anything like this and only my second attempt at quilting! I just couldn't resist those cute doggy faces and have enjoyed every moment of this project and I am so pleased with my finished 'blanky'!!
My fabric choices were a bit of a (happy) accident, I wanted a fleecy back and found this grey and lime green fleece in the remnants at my local fabric shop. So, with this in hand I went off to the fat quarters and chose three fabrics which I felt complimented each other and the fleece. I chose a medium grey for the background.
I decided to make the smaller blocks (in case I was rubbish at it!) and wanted each face to be different which meant sometimes making half a face from one set of instructions and half from another which I found a bit of a challenge! There are four of each colour.
When it came to quilting it, I really wanted to try some fmq pebbles but having had a go on some scraps I soon realised I need LOTS of practice and didn't want to ruin those lovely faces. So I decided to outline each pup and also their patches and noses then did straight lines running in between. I was really pleased with the texture and felt it made the puppies 'pop' out even more.
As I had quite a large piece of fleece I decided to put a border round the outside using this and top stitched it with a blanket stitch. Although my intention was to bind it with the fabric I used on the pups I decided I liked the feel of the edge being all fleecy and blankety so just turned the edges over and blanket stitched there as well.
Sorry if I've waffled on and sent too many pics but just wanted to join the linky party (even though I'm not entirely sure what it is!) so I can feel I've done the whole project! Thanks so much for making this available to the likes of me, I have enjoyed it immensely!
ps The last pic is my lovely dog Teddy enjoying cuddling up to her canine friends!
