Dog Gone Cute - Blocks 7 & 8

Welcome to week 5 in the Dog Gone Cute quilt along blog hop! Assembly Instructions DOG SEVEN:
Wrong side of fabric is depicted by grey.
Sew all pieces with right sides together.

Step 1:  Draw a diagonal line across wrong side of the (A) and (E) squares, place them right sides together on the corners of the (F) and (M) rectangles and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red.  Trim a 1/4" seam and press open. Draw a diagonal line across wrong side of the (R) square, place it right sides together on the corner of the (F) rectangle and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red.  Trim a 1/4" seam and press open.



Step 2:  Sew (B) and (Q) together. Sew the (BQ) between the pieces made in the previous step.



Step 3:  Sew (S), (Y) and (P) together AND (I), (Y) and (H) together. Draw a diagonal line across wrong side of the (R) square, place it right sides together on the corner of the (G) rectangle and sew along the diagonal line, as shown in red.  Trim a 1/4" seam and press open. Sew the (O) rectangle on top of (SYP) and the (RG) rectangle on top of (IYH). Sew the two pieces together.



Step 4:  Draw a diagonal line across wrong side of the (A) squares, place them right sides together on the ends of the (V) and (J) rectangles and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red.  Trim a 1/4" seam and press open.



Step 5:  Draw a diagonal line across wrong side of the (JA) piece made in the previous step, place it right sides together on the end of the (AV) rectangle and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red.  Trim a 1/4" seam and press open.



Step 6:  Draw a diagonal line across wrong side of the (D) squares, place them right sides together on the corners of the (R) squares and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red.  Trim a 1/4" seam and press open.



Step 7:  Sew (Z) and (S) together. Sew the (ZS) between the (DR) pieces made in the previous step. Sew the (A) squares on the ends.



Step 8:  Sew the pieces made in the previous steps together as shown.

Assembly Instructions DOG EIGHT:
Wrong side of fabric is depicted by grey.
Sew all pieces with right sides together.

Step 1:  Draw a diagonal line across wrong side of the (A) and (E) squares, place them right sides together on the corners of the (F) and (M) rectangles and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red.  Trim a 1/4" seam and press open. Draw a diagonal line across wrong side of the (R) square, place it right sides together on the corner of the (F) rectangle and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red.  Trim a 1/4" seam and press open.



Step 2:  Sew (B) and (Q) together. Sew the (BQ) between the pieces made in the previous step.



Step 3:  Sew (S), (Y) and (P) together. Sew the (O) rectangle on top of (SYP).



Step 4:  Sew (I), (Y) and (I) together.  Sew the (HH) rectangle on top of (IYI) and the (S) rectangle on the right side. Sew the (U) rectangle on top. Sew the piece made in the previous step to the left side.



Step 5:  Draw a diagonal line across wrong side of the (A) squares, place them right sides together on the ends of the (X) rectangle and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red.  Trim a 1/4" seam and press open.



Step 6:  Draw a diagonal line across wrong side of the (D) squares, place them right sides together on the corners of the (R) squares and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red.  Trim a 1/4" seam and press open.



Step 7:  Sew (Z) and (S) together. Sew the (ZS) between the (RD) pieces made in the previous step. Sew the (A) squares on the ends.




Step 8:  Sew the pieces made in the previous steps together as shown.





If you are making the 12 block mini quilt using the small blocks (9" x 6") or the 12 block maxi quilt using the large blocks (18" x 12"), use these final steps to complete your quilt.

As a reminder, the measurements for the sashing and border strips and binding can be found here.

QUILT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Use the cover page, as shown above, as a guide.
2) Arrange your dog blocks in 4 rows of 3 blocks, alternating with ‘ears up’ and ‘ears down’ blocks.
3) Join the blocks in the rows.
4) Add the narrower sashing strips to the bottom of the first 3 rows.
5) Add the wider border strips to the top of row 1 and the bottom of row 4.
6) Join the rows together.
7) Add the remaining border strips to the sides.
8) Baste the backing, batting & quilt top and quilt as desired.
9) Trim quilt square and apply the binding.
10) Enjoy!
