The Kona Club Challenge is to create something nice out of a fat quarter Kona Club bundle. And then share a tutorial for this item on the Sew Sisters Quilt Shop blog. Working with such fresh and spring like colours was a pleasure. Those fat quarters of Carrot, Cactus, Buttercup and Eggshell kept my mind off of the cold, stark winter that left it's icy finger on my whole backyard.
This was the view out my window first thing in the morning. All the edges were softened by a beautiful layer of frost. As the day wore on, and I finished the binding on my little runner, the sky brightened. By the time school was out, so was my son, Russell.
He's been hard at work turning this snow drift into a fort, complete with a walkway entrance.
The walkway did not extend out to the hay wagon, but ...
I do like to use this old beast for a photo shoot.
The Flowering Table Runner finished at 12" x 58". The backing fabric was an older stash piece that turned out perfectly suited to those Kona colours used in the blocks. Although I do prefer to quilt with the use of the walking foot, Lil' Janome came out of hibernation to enhance the flower design, adding leaf like shape to the green in the blocks, pebbling in the center of the flowers, and petals in the pinwheels.
This quilted runner was the 23rd use of my 100 labels ordered from

It's been a while since I made a flanged binding. I do love the touch of sunshiney goodness that little yellow polka dot provides. It adds a little zing to the finish!
In preparation for the wrap up of my Top 10 Tips series, I wrote a tutorial for the flanged binding method. It is scheduled to be published on Tuesday.
The tutorial for the Flowering Table Runner is scheduled to post on the Sew Sister's Quilt Shop blog on January 27th. And there will be a giveaway for a fat quarter bundle of those same Kona cottons used in the runner!

The runner looks great... very luscious colours!
When I was a kid we used to build really elaborate forts in the snow drifts too, but we don't seem to get that much snow anymore! Maybe the drifts only seemed bigger when I was a kid...
Super, Lorna! You make the best, simple blocks! This looks more complicated as it it and that's where the talent of designing shows. Solids are perfect and I want to make this! like so many other your designs! Wow your photos are fantastic! Just like in Finnish countryside! Can't say that I miss snow (cold) but it's so beautiful! xTeje
Lorna, what a great contrast between the world outside your window and your lovely spring colored table runner! The binding looks really great, I didn't know this method yet and looking forward to your tutorial. Kind regards Annett
Wow-just so cheery to look at. Love how you quilted it too, really turned out spectacular.
wow what a lot of snow you have! I remember that kind of snow from when I lived in Wisconsin and Idaho - it sure is beautiful - a pain to deal with but pretty!
Your runner looks fab and I love your photoshoot pictures :)
Cute cute table runner. Very cheery and bright. The snow looks fun for a kid but I don't want to have to deal with it. BRRRR....
Such a cute table runner! Those aren't really my colors, but I love the idea of it in other colors for fall or even winter.
Love it! Bright and cheery! Looking forward to your binding tutorial as it looks so nice! Bindings are the bane of my quilting experience. Will consider elephant quilt along. It's cute!
Lovely! I especially like the quilted leaves. You do such a great job using FMQ to enhance your designs!
Look at that snow!!! I would love to be surrounded with that, all cozy and warm sewing my butt off!
Looking forward to that tutorial - lovely photos. Looks like a very impressive fort!
The table runner looks great, Lorna, and how awesome that you had the perfect coordinating print in your stash! It certainly is a fun punch of color against all that snow you have.
Beautiful Table Runner. Love the colors. The pure white snow really sets off the colors. Debbie
Just lovely! So the quilting on leaves & petals is FMQ? I'm so jealous!
I love flanged bindings. They are such a subtle improvement but make a big difference. Very pretty Lorna. Crazy snow! Yikes.
This is beautiful, Lorna! Wow - you have lots of snow!!!
I love your little spools in your sidebar, showing all the ways we can connect with you - adorable! Could you share the Crazy Mom Quilts button you made with Amanda so she'll put that in her posts? It's a winner, too. And third, in my stash I have that same floral you used as backing just waiting for a project like this. The days are already getting longer, and spring is coming!
This is definitely a situation where the quilting totally made the runner come alive. I don't think I would have really seen the flower if it wasn't for the leaf quilting... good job!
OH Lorna you always amaze me!!! I had such a burnt out week of teaching...thank God it snowed here today and today was a work day for teachers...just saying...LOL!! Would have rather been sewing...but oh well. Looking forward to your elephant quilt along!!!
What a beautiful table runner... I am also falling in love with solids. I also love how you took the photo. That's A LOT of snow! We don't have that much and we live in eastern Ontario and normally do!
Beautiful runner, Lorna. I am really looking forward to Sew Sisters' post on the 27th. Gorgeous photography as well. Winter is so beautiful, isn't it. And, it does give us good excuses to sew and sew and sew.
I love this runner! The colors are wonderful and the binding is the icing on the cake. I did my first flange binding last week. Fast and easy.
Love the runner. Very nice.
Beautiful photo shoot! You have some serious snow there. Love the fmq on the leaves too.
You chose gorgeous colors for this runner. The FMQ is perfect! What a pick-me-up for the dead of winter.
Oh boy that's a pretty thing ! I think the old hay wagon is a beautiful backdrop for it !
What a lovely spring table runner. It just lifts your spirits by looking at time. Lovely design!
Love it! Can't wait to see the flanged binding tutorial.
I LOVE this! You always make such great things :)
Love the quilting and choices of fabs. Lovely !!! :)
Aren't those Kona colors just to DIE for!?!?! I have the Kona CARROT for a project I am working on and I have become obsessed with Orange recently. I LOVE that CARROT color, it mixes so well, but then again, all of Konas colors could really be used with one another and mix well!!!
Looks great and wow that is lot of snow! Well done with the challenge!
