You may or may not be aware, the EU is bringing new VAT legislation into effect as of January 1st, 2015. This legislation states that everybody selling digital products (such as pdf quilting patterns) to anybody in the EU must charge VAT (value added tax) at the rate of the country that they are selling to. It would then be my responsibility to follow through with paying those taxes through an expensive, time consuming tax policy process.
Ain't nobody got time for that, girlfriend.
As of January 1st, I will be closing my Craftsy Pattern Store. Until then, all my patterns have been reduced to $3.00 or less.
***** Edited to Add *****
Yes, payhip does handle VAT on behalf of their authors (a.k.a. pattern designers)
Please check out this post for the details.
***** Now that Etsy has finally jumped on board and handles VAT on behalf of their customers, I am now using my Etsy Shop exclusively for all patterns purchases *****
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this post! If you have any questions, feel free to comment or send me an email.

Your patterns look magnificent all grouped together in your new Payhip shop Lorna! Best of luck selling there! Now, before you close your Craftsy shop - I off to go take a peek!
Hi Lorna. This VAT thing is so crazy! I hope it gets sorted out soon. I will try to get to your Craftsy shop on the 31st when there's moola in the account. ;) Good for you for being proactive about it though. Does Payhip take care of all the VAT hassle for you then?
Hey Lorna, Hope this all works out to the better for you and a real smooth transition too. I'm going to check out your Payhip shop now. Happy New Year.
well that darn VAT! They just have to complicate things! They obviously aren't quilters or they wouldn't have time for such nonsense!!!!
Very informative. That does sound like a big hassle.
I've been working through how I'm going to deal with this EU VAT mess as well. I just don't have the resources to comply with the tangle of VAT regulations. I've been looking at Payhip. Since you loaded your patterns there I assume you're happy with it so far?
Good luck with the transition, Lorna. I took advantage of your Crafsy sale. I love the Wow-E pattern!
So glad you found Payhip!! So many folks are simply having to sell print patterns, argh!!! I hope Craftsy wakes up about taking care of VAT. They're losing sellers hand over fist! XX!
what a bore all this is for you, trust it does effect sales too much, with Vat being 20% here it will make quite a difference to prices.
Lorna, what a pain this VAT tax is for you. There's a lot of people closing their Craftsy stores, so Craftsy will either lose out, or wake up and do something. I've taken advantage of your sale and bought 3 patterns I've had my eye on. Hope all pans out well with Payhip. Wishing you a fun 2015, with lots of quilting.
I wish you the best Lorna and a wonderful New Year's Eve!
Sounds like the EU found a way to hurt small business in a big way! Craftsy will be hurt as well. What a shame!
What a pain. I am going to have to figure all this out tomorrow. Thanks for the tip that Payhip.com will take care of this. *sigh*.
This seems to have caused a lot of difficulties doesn't it. I am glad that you have found a way to handle it though! xx
Thanks for posting about this, Lorna. I finally decided to take my pattern of Craftsy today until I can figure out what to do. Payhip sounds like a good alternative. From what I read, I could also just offer it for sale by email (there's that level of human interaction involved). This seems so silly for small crafters, but not much to do about it. Wish Craftsy had been on top of it and communicative/responsive/proactive about it.
Lovely quilt, Lorna! Happy New Year!!!
