Fabric Additions

During 2017 I have been working hard to resist making new fabric purchases. I have made most of my quilts this year from stash. Not that I am low on fabric now.... but because it is hard to resist buying something new once in a while.... and because there are some things lacking, like backgrounds and black, I felt the need to do a little shopping this past month. Black Friday and Cyber Monday were also drawing me in.

The yardages of black were a necessity. I'm out of black prints and love to use them for binding. Those raindrops have me wishing I would have had this print back when I made one of those 4 Black Birds quilts!

Along with those black fabrics, these fat quarters of Nordic Holiday and the binding and background fabrics were from the Oakville Sewing Centre. I had a trunk show in nearby Ancaster in mid November, so I left early and took a slight detour to do a little in person shopping!

And then when I was online shopping, I spotted this cute Christmas tree fabric for the backing. Not that I have a solid plan for all this fabric yet. But maybe the new sew along for 2018 will be another Christmas quilt?

Christmas Basic Tree in Blue, Bright Side Meadow in Yellow and Natural World Dots from Sew Sisters Quilt Shop

The two yellows were purchased because I am also low on yellow prints and when you find something like these on sale - you buy yardage!

I may have gone a little wild with some more online shopping. It started out reserved.

Feeling the need to add to my newly started stash of modern prints...

Sunprint Link in Hydrangea and Citrus from Fabric Spark

These next pieces were chosen for two reasons - firstly because they were on sale and secondly because they would make great backings or binding.
Meadow Wildflowers in Mint, Veggies on Green, Petal Orange and Main White from Wistful Winds by Riley Blake from The Fabric Snob

Sky, Sapphire and Black Dress from Grunge Hits the Spot collection by MODA from The Fabric Snob

The Grunge pieces were all purchased for a plan. Remember the Buffalo Plaid quilt mock ups shared here? These have already been cut up and are starting to be pieced!

Sky and Sapphire from Grunge Hits the Spot and Cobalt Grunge by MODA from Mad About Patchwork

This next grouping are also going in a quilt using a Buffalo Plaid design.

Creekside Daydream in Stone, C+S Basics Add It Up in Taffy, Stay Gold Marigold in Blossom and Peony Grunge
from Mad About Patchwork

These next pieces are all flannels chosen to back the Buffalo Plaid quilts. I haven't used any flannel for a long time. But I love the look and feel of a quilt backed in super soft and cozy flannel. I think flannel makes a quilt more quilty!

Doe a Deer Flannel Trees in Grey, Local Color Flannel Tattersail in Light Blue and Local Color Flannel Window Pane in Light Blue from Mad About Patchwork

And these last pieces were chosen because the sale was on and the top three were calling my name. The Christmas tree fabric needed to join the first fabrics I shared in this post. And the bottom two pieces were needed - a bolt of Kona White and some Aqua wide backing fabric.

Mod Dot in Fuschia, Zenith Turquoise, Jingle Birds Trees in Red, Bolt of Kona White and Color Weave Wideback in Aqua from Mad About Patchwork

Other than the Christmas fabrics...
I really do have quilts planned for these new additions!

Honest!
Did you take advantage of the recent sales?

Hmmm!!! That is a stack of beautiful fabric choices, and how did your name just happen to be on the yards? Love your colours.

You did well, Lorna! I'm glad to hear you held out through the year to work through some of your stash. (My plan this year, but no guarantees.) Adding some fresh, new fabric to what we have on the shelf sometimes make them more usable, too. It sounds like you've got a good idea already hammered out for your 2018 quilts. Good for you!

I keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. I have used more than I have taken in so far this year. Your stash additions are great. I always seen to be short on backings. It's always great to find fabric on sale!

Yup, the raindrops did jump out for an oooh I like moment. And then all the other pretties really ticked so many like boxes - but my favourite is the black one with clouds and little blue birds.

Would like more yardage but room dictates that if I get to squeeze in any more there'll be an almighty explosion of fabric confetti all over the neighbourhood!

Nice fabrics. No, I don't do the Friday sales, or the cyber Monday sales. At the moment, I'm mostly only buying fabrics for things that I'm currently working on. I need to use stash now, to get rid of it.

Really pretty additions! I'm looking forward to the Buffalo Plaid creations, I'm hopeful I can use up some of my stash for that. I added a number of new fabrics over the holiday weekend. One of these days I'll stop petting them and actually sew with them! ha!

I pretty much only shop the sales but now and then something creeps in that wasn't on sale but will be going in a special quilt. Most everything I made this year came from the stash also and I was running out of some colors so I have been shopping off and on since Christmas it is the main part of the year that I shop for fabric although I did some when I went to Paducah of course in September

Another Christmas quiltalong? YAY! I would love that. Your fabric additions look well-thought-out. You already have a specific use for most of them.

Superb choices, Lorna. I love every single one of these.
I did make some fabric purchases at my local Webfabrics
internets shop It is 20 minutes from my house and I spent a small fortune there.
I also bought a fatquarter bundle at Lady Belle

You did have a fabric shopping spree. I did not buy during this Black/Cyber sales. I really need to assess what is needed in my stash (like backgrounds, backings, missing/sparse colorways) before I do any serious shopping.

But then there will always be some just because I like it shopping right?

Lots of fun fabrics being added to your stash. Good luck with your 018 plans. After attempting to cut back on buying in 2016, I fell off the wagon this year. So for 2018, I plan to renew my efforts to work with what I have and restrain from buying. BUT, since it's still 2017, yes I did take advantage of the recent sales online. It seems like once I get started it's hard to stop.

I did Lorna. But not as much as you. I also did a little shopping for the guild stash for sashing and background fabric..whoo hoo!

Wow, you really did do some shopping! It probably made up for the rest of the year. I've been really bad as far as not being able to resist online sales. But I've gotten some incredible deals and you have to snap them up before they're gone. Isn't shopping for fabric fun?

What great additions to you stash!! Can I ask how do you pick the amount? I am always worried that IF I only get 1 or 2 yards that would not be enough.
