GREAT BIG giveaway - Day 1

Welcome to the first day in this week of the GREAT BIG giveaway!!!

When it comes to labeling your finished quilts...
How do you fare?

Do you bother to label them at all?
How about totes and pouches?

got my quilt labels from IKAPRINT. There is always a link to their site at the end of my finishes posts and I do receive a small commission on all sales using this link. Thank you to anyone who has ever used it. Every little bit helps!

It was back in July of 2014 that I received my first order of 100 quilt labels from the IKAPRINT store. It was in this post that I shared how much I loved my new labels and showed off how they looked on a newly finished GenX-Aztec quilt. I used my 33rd label from that 100 label order when I finished my Zany ZebraZ quilt and had our first label giveaway. The Little Blooms in Kona finish brought me to a total of 44 labels used.

Now 100 labels may seem like an awful lot of labels. If you only use them for larger projects like quilts, they will last you a long, long time. I used the remaining last few labels from my first order just this past week when I added them to the back of some mini mini quilts. And then started into my second order of 100 labels when I made even more mini mini quilts!

I ordered the 1 1/2" size. This refers to the width of the label. And the 5/8" refers to the height. So when folded the labels are a little bigger than 1/4" and the "sew fresh quilts" shows from the front. The "by Lorna McMahon" is only seen if you flip the label up.

These labels are made by Fatih Demirtas of IKA Products. Fatih is based in Paris, France.
She make the most handsome and stylish bags and totes. And blogs about them here on her site.

You see..., I don't make the labels. I had been providing a storefront for ordering the labels from my site. But now Fatih has an updated site and all the labels are ordered directly through her.

To celebrate, she has generously offered to sponsor a giveaway that includes 100 labels of your choice and includes the cost of shipping!

To order labels and get a 5% discount
click on the ikaprint photo above
and use the coupon code AFF05.

I try to label most of my quilts, but some manage to slip by. Recently I saw a suggestion of using the twill tape from the fat quarter packs to machine embroider my initials and year and tuck that into the binding. I used that idea to tuck into the seam of a little bag I made...looks great, but not as great as your labels. Thanks for sharing such a neat giveaway!

I usually make a heart label but I get creative on my quilts with labels.

Rachell said...

For quilts and such, I hand-embroider all the info and then hand-stitch the label on the quilt. I'm learning how to make labels with my new embroidery sewing machine. Several years ago, I ordered a roll of labels from a vendor through Annie's CAtalog, that screen-print your name on a choice of a few designs. Those are great for every-day items like clothing, pillows, gifts.
These labels look and sound awesome, too!

I do not like making labels. This would be so easy!

Yes. I have some labels that I sew in when binding.

I always label my quilts, but I embroider them. This would be so much easier for those not specifically intended for someone special! robinsheloratearthlinkdotnet

I label all quilts but not little projects except the ones I gift.
Raffle opted asked for my favorite color which is orange

I do label all my quilts, but have not put labels on the smaller items I have made. I think these labels would be great for those. On my quilt labels I add a lot of information such as who the quilt was made for and why.

JM Necheles said...

I write on the back of the quilt. I really should make labels, but it is so much fun to find a space to write a personal note to the person receiving the quilt.

Ladydukes said...

I always label my quilts; to me, that's like the signature on a painting.

Marly said...

I label my quilts, and smaller projects: usually I write on a piece of light coloured solid, but sometimes I embroider the labels. I would love to have some ready-made labels; thanks for the chance!

Missenota aka Kristin S. said...

I do label my quilts. Probably because I started quilting with many swap projects. I know a printed label would be more impressive than my handwritten scrawls though.

Unknown said...

I do label my quilts. I make a label from solid fabric and write with a permanent pen.

Rebecca said...

Yes, I make sure all my quilts and wall hangings have some sort of signature on them and information too. On my grandchildrens ones I like to add additional little sayings etc. When I make clothing for them I draw on my personal label in the back of the garment, so winning a few labels would be fun to use. thanks for the chance

Kathryn said...

I label my quilts, but nothing that looks as professional as these. I'd love to start.

Unknown said...

Previously I was using "self-made" labels out of iron on transfer paper and twill tape, but these days I'm using ones ordered off etsy.

Kathy Davis said...

Yes, I label my quilts by embroidering my initials and the year in a corner. Would love to be more professional with real labels!

Love those little labels. Blue seems to be my favorite color if you check my closet but yellow dominates my stash.

KaliaContiki said...

I label the ones I give away but I'm bad about not labeling the ones that I make just for fun. I can never think of something to say so I add the label once I decide where it's going.

Tiffany said...

I tend to label my quilts when I have a specific recipient/purpose in mind. I normally print something onto my special printing fabric and stitch it onto the back of the quilt before quilting, when I remember. Every now and then when I have enough time to make something just for fun - those quilts usually don't get labeled. 😟

PatriciaEE said...

I haven't labeled my quilts. I know I want to start. I had the binding on my last one before I realized I should have put on a label.

I have some little labels a lot like yours, but with a thimble icon added, because that is my favorite symbol. I would love more labels just like yours (but with my name, lol.) Sometimes I do the big label with all of the info. xo

Mama Spark said...

I often hand embroider a label and sew it directly into the back of the quilt. I really do not like the look of them sewn on after, but have been very happy incorporating them into the back. I love the idea of your little labels and would really love to try this out!

Quilt label-it's the one part of making a quilt I don't like. I've been thinking of ordering these labels but I'd like the date to be on it. kthurn at bektel dot com

All I can say is 'sometimes.' I am not very consistent. Maybe I need to work on that.

Linette Greene said...

I sometimes label my quilts, but I often do not. I don't like the methods I have tried in the past much. This would be super fun to try.

Paula said...

I'm not always consistent about labeling my quilts. Labels are included when the quilt is a gift....wedding, baby, birthday, or just because. Not so much on the ones I keep.

Lynda said...

I have never labeled a quilt - I think of myself as an amature and have never sold a quilt. My family has been really bugging me to sell my work, I think the fear is that no one would pay money for it.

Sandra Walker said...

You betcha I label my quilts! I'm a label nut you could say... Lorna I will message you later as I'm sure you won't be able to read all 240+ comments, but in case you do, did you offer a 5% discount before?

And for the quilts I know I will send to charity, I do not use my professional label. I use a plain label and write the quilt name and my first name, city and year.

When I sew for Project Linus, I sew on one of their labels. We are allowed to also pin a paper label with our name on it to the quilt, but some of the organizations that distribute the blankets prefer that the donor names be removed. So they unpin the paper label.

I've been a bad girl 'cause I haven't really labelled my quilts at all! One that was a gift I did use a sharpie on scrap fabric and sewed it into the binding...so I could really use labels!!!

I made some labels on spoonflower but these would be much better!

I label my quilts, usually with labels I have made with machine embroidery.

I try to label them but I don't always get it done. My favorite method is to create it on the computer and print it on fabric paper from EQ. I like to scan a picture of one of the fabrics and use it for my background.
