KYSS Me by the Garden Wall {Redo}

This fresh and fun finish is a remake using my KYSS Me by the Garden Wall pattern. Last October I purchased two layer cakes of this bright and vibrant Pie Making Day, fully intending to pair it with some white and make a great big hexagon quilt, similar to the Beach House Baby quilt but using really big hexagons and triangles.

I don't often buy precuts of any shape or form....
But I could not resist the lure of those luscious prints from this line.

By the way...
Almost a month ago, I announced how spring had arrived here on the farm.

I was mistaken.

The KYSS Me by the Garden Wall pattern calls for a solid fabric to make the mortar between the bricks and another for the beams between the bricks. For my original make of this quilt, which you can see here, I had a layer cake of Meadow Friends and went with two gray fabrics. Very boyish. For this one I chose to use white for the mortar because it makes those rich fabrics really pop!

For the beams, I chose to finally get my hands on some of that Free Fall by Tula Pink. This is a wideback fabric and is 100% cotton sateen. I did not realize it was a sateen until after I bought it. It is silky and soft. But also frays like mad! In spite of that.... I still would have bought it anyway. I love how much punch it adds to this crazy mix. Such richness!

And those birds.
Who can resist?!!!

For the quilting, I first did some anchor quilting along the outside of each horizontal mortar strip. Then went back and used my signature wavy lines between them. I used plain white Gutermann thread on top....

And a variegated blue from Superior Threads in the bobbin.

"KYSS Me by the Garden Wall" the Redo finished at approximately 60" x 75"
and was the 87th use of my 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

I LOVE this!!! Beautiful use of such wonderful colors and fabrics!!! My BIL gave me some of the pink FreeFall...it is scrumtious...and now I know that that loveliness is called sateen, thank you!!! I only wish the white was on the tummies of those birds! I am a strange stickler like that, lol! It looks like you get 2 springs this year ;)

This is such a gorgeous finish Lorna! I bought a rectangle die just to make a brick wall quilt ...... still haven't made one but this may well motivate me (once the others are all ticked off!)

I love how vibrant this quilt is! An actual garden wall like this would really brighten up the winter landscape. I have some Free Fall set aside for a future quilt backing. It really is lovely! Thanks for the free pattern download.

This is a great finish! I think your quilt is trying to run away from this fake spring that is acting like winter. LOL Thanks for the pattern.

Love the fabrics in this one. One of the first table runners I made was in this design but I didn't think to add mortar to my bricks. Thanks for sharing the pattern. And I love that backing fabric. Two of my favorites in one fabric, birds and dots. Debbie

I love the prints you used in this quilt. The addition of the fussy cut layer with the bird was a great choice!

Thank you for the pattern. This quilt is so lovely. I'm sitting on a blue/yellow layer cake (the name of the Moda line is escaping me) and this would be spectacular for it. Thank you!

This is so gorgeous! I adore that line of fabric and you really made it sing. I'm also now going to look into where I can find superior thread near me. I love how that variegated looks on the back.
