Thank you all so much for letting me know how much you like the Black Birds design. What a wonderful response I have been receiving through emails and comments left on my Let's Bee Social post earlier this week. And on both my Facebook and Instagram feeds! You quilty peeps are the best!
But I guess when it comes to us quilting folks...
Birds of a feather flock together!
Always showing support and encouragement to one another.
Thank you!
Most of the fabrics used in this quilt were purchased at my LQS when I taught the On Point class last month. Who can visit a fabric shop in person and resist picking up a little something? Not me!
Something must have spooked these birds.
'Cause they sure wanted to fly away!

Love at first flight! |
For my background, I found this yardage from Northcott Fabrics' Artisan Spirit Ambience collection in the Twilight colorway. I also picked out and got 1/4 yard cuts of a nice, bright red and a few black fabrics. The other black and grey fabrics were from my stash. A few of my favourites are Artisan Spirit Shimmer by Northcott Fabrics, Holiday Magic for Henry Glass Fabrics and Spot On by Robert Kaufman Fabrics.
Can you believe it?!!! As much as I adore solids... This quilt does not contain a one!
I dug into my stash to find an appropriate backing. And found this fun Ampersand Typography in white that I last used on my Zany ZebraZ quilt back in March of last year.
Although I had considered using red, I made sure when I picked up those pieces from the quilt shop, that I got a generous cut of that Holiday Magic, and used it for the binding instead.
I do love me a dotty binding!
While I was piecing this top, and during a break, I got to thinking about a blue bird in place of the red bird. And saved this mock up drawn up in my EQ7. This one REALLY appeals to me!

I think it turned out great!
Congratulations on another awesome finish and unique design! :)
love the birds! So cute
This is very cute and I love the quilting you did on it. Perfect!
What an adorable quilt. I love the one red or blue bird. And that backing fabric is pefrect :)
Lorna, not only do I love all your quilts, I really enjoy reading your posts. "Peeps", "birds of a feather", "fly away"! It's all just so fun! Have a wonderful weekend!
I just love this quilt and the quilting you do and have on this quilt too. My dad always loved his Blue Jays and Cardinal Birds. I'll have to make one in memory and add a few extra blue and red ones among the black birds. Beautiful design!!
Lorna, I just love seeing your birds in non-solid fabric (not that I dislike your usual solid animals, mind you!). This quilt is the combination of charming design and charming motifs. I find it irresistable. I could not resist pinning the close-up picture of your two black birds. :-)
What a cool quilt! Love the one with the little red bird and that great graphic backing. Congrats on another great pattern.
Another beautiful finish Lorna! This is so cute! I love the little red bird, and the blue one too, and the beautiful backing. Congratulations on such a wonderful pattern--just in time for spring!
Wow! That's a gorgeous quilt. Those little birds have such personality. They look very cheeky. King Tut is my favorite thread for quilting and that one looks just lovely on your quilt.
I always love seeing what animal you'll come up with for your next quilt! And you never disappoint! I love the birds and how appropriate that the wind helped them to fly in the pictures. Julie@TheCraftyQuilter.com
You went and did it again! Beautiful!
I really like this one Lorna! I think the variegated thread makes the wavy quilting look like gusts of wind.
Such a fun quilt! Love the pop of red in the middle. Beautifully done!
love your new pattern ! can't decide if I like the red or blue bird best though
I love this quilt, especially with the blue bird. You sure are very productive in getting your quilts done. How long do you spend working on quilts in a day?
Love this new pattern!!! Both the cardinal and the blue bird are adorable!! You come up with the cutest designs!!!
What a fun pattern! It really is adorable as a baby blanket, I love the "kissing" birds.
It's even more fun to see in close up Lorna! I love the variegated quilting detail too! What a great analogy between quilting friends and Birds of a Feather. :)
This is so adorable! I just love it! :)
I love your birds Lorna! Well done!
Lorna, that is just adorable! You are amazing! And congratulations for using all those print fabrics!
Wow, Lorna! I love this pattern. The one red bird pops against all those blackbirds. It's funny how the blacks read solid when you're looking at the whole quilt. I didn't even realize that every one is a print until I read it in the post. I'm sure working on this one was loads of fun!
So darn cute! I love your fabric choices. And that blue bird!! :)
Beautiful birds, I want to make this one too ... I can keep up!!!
Love it!! The variegated thread was a great choice. I like both the red and blue birds.
What a beautiful flock of black birds! I love how they are flying away with the quilt in the wind :)
Love it, bought it, can't wait to make it :)
Lorna, all your animal patterns are fabulous, but this one is definitely my favorite, I love black birds! Thanks for sharing your tutorials and all the patterns. Barbora
