Penguin Inn

What a fast and fun finish! This Penguin Inn quilt was cut and pieced in one day. And quilted and bound the next. It may have been a couple of weeks since I sewed anything. But it must be just like riding a bike.

This photo shoot makes me thankful for the fresh show fall. Makes for the perfect backdrop to this polar themed quilt complete with an igloo and three adorable penguins.

The one on top seems to be King of the Castle...

But I assure you these are three very good friends!

Penguin Inn was made using ColorWorks Premium Solids from Northcott Fabrics. The penguins are Ultra Black, Super White and Canary. The background is Clearwater. The bricks are made from Oasis, Lagoon, Bahama Blue, Capri and Turquoise. And the binding is Liberty Blue.

It seems like I have been quilting with plain white thread for quite a while now. So for this one I dug into my stash of Superior Threads. And chose a cone of variegated blue for the top and used plain white thread in the bobbin. However, I stuck to my trademark organic wavy lines for a fast and fun quilting finish.

Thank you to Northcott Fabrics for sponsoring this project using selections from your ColorWorks collection for the front and a cute flannel print from the Let It Snow collection for the backing.

This snowflake print ties in nicely with the main blues from the front. I chose a navy for the binding to make a slightly darker frame to hold everything in place.

The Penguin Inn pattern is now listed for sale in my pattern shopThis quilt is made using traditional methods and is not paper pieced. The pattern provides material requirements, cutting instructions and detailed step-by-step directions. Here it is using an Electric Quilt mock up.

Instructions include the directions to make this single block that finishes at 18" square. The perfect size for making a mini quilt for the penguin lover in your life!

"Penguin Inn" finished at approximately 54" x 66"
and was the 83rd use of my 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

I love love love these li'l fellas. I wish it was smaller for a wall hanging. Is it possible to make just the center design area for a wall hanging and how large would it be then? Thanks

Love these penguins. Went to see them at the Calgary Zoo a couple of years ago. They are so cute in person.

Do you use a domestic sewing machine or a long arm when you do your organic wave stitch
