Squirrels in the Park

It's Friday again. And the squirrels are back!

This is my second go of making a set of coordinated squirrel blocks. The first set of squirrel blocks I made were reddish brown. They were used to make a runner for my daughter's hope chest. You can see that finished runner here.

Oh, those pesky rodents... This time they are frolicking in the park.

This is Squirrels in the Park, a baby quilt sized 40" x 51", and it's made from Kona Cottons. For the background, I used Snow. The squirrels are Black and Coal. And the bird is Breakers with a Sunny yellow beak.

Seeing as those squirrels are frolicking in the park, for the backing, I have chosen to use this cherished piece of Windy Day in Aqua from the Backyard Baby Collection by Patty Sloniger for Michael Miller Fabrics. The binding will be cut from the one on the right below - Birch Forest in Aqua.

Can you believe I am cutting into that precious birch bark print?
It will be worth it, but it won't be easy.

The Squirrels in the Park baby quilt,
is now offered in conjunction with the Erin's Squirrels pattern,
and is available from my pattern store here.

Lorna, your squirrels are so cute! And the bird is darling! Love your color choices, again. I just got back from Thailand and wide awake at night so I read your blog. LOL. Congrats on the On Point quilt kits sale. The quilt is beautiful, I'm sure it will be a hit.

I love Birch fabrics and I understand the anxiety in cutting them! Your squirrels look alive, they remind me the parks of London where you can see many of them. Have a wonderful week-end Lorna, and thanks for the party!

This is a fabulous block. I can't wait to try and make one.
You are so inspiring Lorna. I do love everything you come up with.
congratulations on getting one of your quilt kits in FQS. I am sure they will keep coming out with more of your stuff. FQS always latches on to the latest and greatest.

No, I cannot believe you are cutting into your Birch Forest. You are brave. I am also digging in and making with some of my favorite coveted pieces.... It is hard. Measure twice :-D

I don't know that I could cut into that birch bark, Lorna. It's just too freakin' good. But then again, why have fabric in the stash if you're NEVER going to use it? One way I combat this problem is by making myself a small everyday item using scraps of a treasured fabric. Then I get to keep it... at least a little.

These squirrels are much more pleasing to me... and not just because they're frolicking (there's that word again!) I love that the little bird and the squirrel on the bottom row look to be having a showdown.

Love your squirrels Lorna - you captured their poses perfectly!
Did you know that the Windy Day fabric was originally a Spoonflower fabric? Patty won a contest there and with this line she became a MM designer - How cool eh?
Windy Day and Birch go so great with your black squirrels. We see a black squirrel here from time to time and my husband always says "There's another Canadian tourist." LOL
