Now that the winter is over and the weather is nice, Teddy decided to come along for the photo shoot this week. Teddy really likes the squirrels and wanted to play in the park, but we settled on going out to the old hay wagon instead. The wagon was recently moved to the pasture field. The dirt you see in the background is where the wagon sat all winter and will soon be sprouting up corn stalks.
Before long.... Being tired of just sitting around, and feeling kind of brave, Teddy wanted to strike a new pose. It's hard work being a model bear. Though, I imagine, much easier than being a bare model.
Well I did it....
I cut into that Birch Forest print for binding.
This is my second attempt at attaching the binding to the front, then securing the fold over to the back by stitching in the ditch from the front. I was a little more pleased with the results because I cut the binding strips at 2.25" this time. I think I will try glue basting the next time.
High noon. Show-down in the park. Bird versus squirrel.
I win! You blinked your beady little eyes!
I used black thread and a zig-zag stitch for all the eyes and the bird's legs.
The backing is Windy Day in Aqua from the Backyard Baby Collection by Patty Sloniger for Michael Miller Fabrics. And the coordinating Birch Forest binding is from the same collection.
I quilted this using my favourite method of organic wavy lines in an edge to edge design. And I love the results. It appears as though the wind really is blowing though those trees!
This Squirrels in the Park baby quilt finished at approximately 40" x 51"
and was the 41st use of my 100 labels ordered from Ikaprint.
The Squirrels in the Park baby quilt pattern,
is now offered in conjunction with the Erin's Squirrels pattern,
and is available from my pattern store here.
This Squirrels in the Park baby quilt is listed for sale in my Etsy Shop here.

I love the Windy Day fabric for the backing; it is great! Congratulations on another fun finish. :)
Seriously, this is too cute! And maybe you need to tell bear to stop trying to steal the show. ;) The backing and binding are the perfect touch.
So adorable! The quilting really does make it look like the perfect blustery day. When I machine bind, I like the 2.25" strips as well. I usually go from back to front, though, with my stitches doing through the binding on both sides. I hope that makes sense! ha.
I love that backing fabric! I have not seen it before and will need to give it a look. The squirrels are so cute. I have not tried to do binding by machine like that - I know I would mess it up for sure!
Once again, another great finish. I love that Teddy joined in the fun. The backing is spot on, and it does seem like wind blowing in the trees.
You are the queen of cute animal quilts, Lorna. Love it!
Beautiful Lorna~I especially love the little birdies :)
Another beautiful finish. So many thoughtful details and lovely fabric choices.
It turned out so cute Lorna! The teddy in the picture is darling laying there. Love the wavy lines for quilting. I just finished a baby quilt with that quilting too. Do you find that type of quilting distorts the quilt? I had to trim quite a bit to get my quilt square again : /
Cute quilt! Love your choice of backing fabric.
I like the sweet little bird. I am a fan of birds. One of my favorite machine quilting patterns is that wavy edge to edge. It is so organic and gives quilts movement. That pattern gave this quilt a true feeling of the wind blowing in the forest. What stitch size and spacing do you use when quilting? Debbie
Love it Lorna! The quilting is perfect for this quilt. I've found that glue basting and 2.25 binding works best for me. Each time I bind a project I am more pleased with the look on the back. The glue helps me keep the distance from the edge of the binding even.
This pattern is my new favorite of yours Lorna! Those squirrels and the little bird are so awesome.
I love looking at your quilts and your photos are beautiful!
A great finish Lorna. Love your post with Teddy - gave me a smile or two. Way too cute.
I love your new squirrel quilt! It is so cute and pretty! I laugh when I see the birdy staring down the squirrel.
This is a beautiful and fun post to show off your new quilt . I love the spirit you put into your designs, Lorna!

So very cute. Great choice for a backing fabric. Love the show down!
You captured the squirrels' postures perfectly. I expect them to twitch their tails any second! and Teddy is an adorable model. I'm glad he could come out of hibernation.
Beautiful work as always, Lorna! I think the bird is my favorite part. Teddy makes a great model, too.
Another really wonderful animal pattern and perfectly designed! Your wavy quilting really does look like the breeze, even right down to blowing the pup's ears in the backing fabric. So adorable Lorna! I pinned Teddy's relaxed pose! "Bare model" hee hee
I used glue basting the last time on a binding and it definitely made things easier and more accurate.
Love your squirrels. We have new kitties next door so our squirrels have gone somewhere else.
Love the squirrel quilt. I love how you quilted horizontal lines. Thanks for sharing this.
So great!! I adore your new patterns!! You go girl! And that wave quilting does make it so breezy :) Love!!
This is so cute, love the sweet little blue bird and the fabric that you used for the back is adorable!
