So here is one zebra butt!
ZebraZ blocks by Sew Fresh Quilts - the one on the right... His name is Zazzles. |
Here again is the little birdie block alone. Although the bird does look rather large in comparison to the zebra, this block finishes at only 5" x 6". Each of the zebra blocks finish at 12" x 14".
As I was working away on those ZebraZ, my mind wandered through the many comments left on the ZebraZ introductory post. Someone wondered if I was piecing all those stripes. Yes, those stripes are pieced. But I pieced width of fabric strips together and then cut the body parts to width from these strip sets. I like a challenge, but I am not THAT crazy. Hey.
But maybe that still sounds like an awful lot of trouble?
Perhaps. So I began picturing how these zebra blocks would look using a variety of black and white prints for the zebras instead of piecing the stripes. Cheater ZebraZ is how I now refer to them. On Thursday I started adding this option to the pattern. Then you could use 16 different prints to make the pieces and forgo piecing the stripes.

Maybe someone would like to use a really bright and crazy floral print to make the one zebra different. Or maybe some rainbow striped fabric anyone???

Oh my, I didn't know you were putting that cute bird in the zebra block. This is just so stinkin' cute!
Your ZebraZ are really precisely pieced, Lorna. I especially love their ears for some reason. :)
WOW! That BARE Zebra is risqué!
Brilliant Lorna! They are even cuter than expected... Just too sweet.
I was also wondering about a scrappy rainbow one. Just one in the quilt. There is always one unicorn... ;))
Ohhh...Zazzles is so adorable! The idea from Laura is great - just one scrappy rainbow zebra in the quilt...
Apparently we are sharing a brainwave.... I was crushing on elephants and got switched around to zebras too! Loving your zebra's!! Check out my blog: purplebootsandpigtails.blogspot.com
Zazzles is a great name, loved how you had one zebra a bit different in your last post. I really like all you animal designs, elephants in particular - keep them coming please - they are great!
the animals are turning out really great.
Lorna, you make me laugh!!
I so look forward to reading your post!
Love your work. You just might have convinced me to try paper piecing....
I fell in love with the elephants....think I like the zebra even more : )
Love this zebra block! This is sort of like the 'if a tree falls in the forest' question - but is a zebra still a zebra without the stripes?
Hey, I like a good butt! Seriously cute! How perfectly pieced! Love how you have the 'V' on the zebra's face! I could see making this little guy in all kinds of fabrics. They could be like 'a horse of a different color'!
These animal blocks are too cute! The bare zebra does make me a bit uncomfortable though! ;-D I cannot wait to see the finished quilt!
So cute! I love the things you create.
Those are really wonderful! I can't wait to see it finished.
Cute, cute, cute!! Have I said that already? I think I would have to make mine with black muzzles and ears...maybe with colored backgrounds....while we are playing around :) Zazzles is a perfect name too!
I think these are just as cute as your elephants, which is going some. Please cover up that poor bare zebra though!
i am loving all the animal quilts lately! I just did a Hazel top and I am about to quilt it! I still cannot decide how to quilt it yet! Your zebras are adorable and the bird is so cute!!!
I loved the elephants and then promptly fell in love with your zebras. Any plans for giraffes?
So cute. And I love the thought of making different zebras, not only stiped. After all I did make pink elephants.
Love that one red bird stuck in there, to cute. The bare zebra looks cold. Brrr. Can't wait to see the finish. Debbie
I giggled when I read the title~and Zazzles was the name of Sheldon's cat on The Big Bang Theory~another giggle. Thanks for a happy Friday start :)
Love the zebras. The bare zebra is in need of a quilt to keep warm. lol Looking forward to a pattern.
"Zazzles", LOL! Maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I do love a zebra with stripes. ;) Lorna they look so cute and this is another fantastic design! I think it is great that you pieced the stripes, because it puts "striped fabric" in almost everyone's stash!
Oh, Thank you for all the lovely compliments! Glad to hear you are enjoying the posts.
You know what? These blocks that I made for the Elephant Parade and all the ZebraZ....
They are NOT paper pieced. Hahaha! That paper piecing hurts my brain.
Thanks so much for dropping by! Happy Sewing! Hugs, Lorna:)
Oh, you are GOOD! That episode was echoing in my brain all day. And so I used it on my Zebra!
So very cute!
Super cute, Lorna!! I giggled as I read the post :)

Is he named Zazzles because he's just so zazzy? Hee hee hee... I'm loving these zebras. I can see how they could turn into horses very easily... I have a couple horse-y pals that would love these in that incarnation. I'm not sure about a bare-arsed zebra though... something doesn't seem quite right there :)
Nice zebra butt. We are al going to be going to the animals with you at some point.
Love the butts. I also think one rainbow zebra would be great. Am I missing where the pattern is?
I am still working on the pattern as I make the quilt. Should be ready within a week or two, Debby. Keep you eye on the blog for the announcement post. Glad to hear you like the ZebraZ!
Ohh those are so fun, I think one wild zebra would be great, and I have to admit the cheater ones look fun too!!
So cute little animals! I love them all!
You're making it hard to resist.....I love these zebras. Hello Zazzles.
That is just the cutest zebra!
As I'm reading your post my girl just called the bare zebra - donkey. Once again great pattern Lorna!
