Let's Bee Social #61

In keeping with the wild animal theme of the Elephant Parade quilt along, I am now working on this fun ZebraZ quilt this week.  After hours of quilt math, and the making of prototype blocks, the pattern is finally finished.  Now the fun part begins!  On Monday I did all the cutting.  Tuesday I started the piecing, following the pattern to ensure it is written accurately.

ZebraZ quilt 58" x 72" by Sew Fresh Quilts

This unique wildlife quilt is a sponsored project, as Northcott Fabrics has been kind enough to supply the rich solids from their Northcott ColorWorks premium cotton collection.  I can hardly wait to see this new quilt design come to life!

So far I have made fantastic progress.
However, besides this cute little bird block, the remainder of what I have accomplished is only 15 zebra butts!  Just wouldn't be right to show them, as is.

Bird block for Zebra quilt

Meanwhile, the Elephant Parade quilt along is now in it's fourth week and going strong.  By using the #elephantparadeQAL hash tag, it is such a pleasure to see everyone's quilting progress on Instagram and in the Flickr group!  It's not too late to join in the fun...  The next two weeks will reveal the final block instructions for the bird and flower blocks.  Then on to sashing, borders, backing and quilting.  Looking forward to hosting the Elephant Parade linky party at the end!

I love your pieced animals. They are adorable. I want to make them, allthough I do not like piecing.

An other beautiful design! You're such a productive lady... I've been seeing many elephants lately. I guess I'll see many zebras in the weeks following the release of your pattern. I'm looking forward to seeing your zebras. I wonder if you cut and pieced every single black line on their body...?

I have been loving the elephants on parade. The zebras are adorable. Are you using striped fabric or piecing it?

It looks like you've been having fun! And I think photos of Zebra butts would be funny. You should share them. :)

Too cute! You made me chuckle out loud with your zebra butts sentence. Animal butts and baby bums are so cute--you totally should've bared them, bahaha.

Are the zebras going to be a free pattern and quilt along like the Elephant Parade?

Honestly, Lorna. I was barely able to resist the elephants. Now you've upped your game and put zebras in the mix. I don't know how much longer I can hold out!

The zebras are a great idea Lorna! Especially these days with a lot of nurseries being decorated in modern black and white - it's hard to find designs to fit - this patter would be perfect :)

Love your Zebras, is it going to be the next QAL?

Shelina said...

These zebras are adorable! I was thinking of adding other animals to the elephant parade. I ruled out the zebra because I thought they would be hard to see on a white background, but these are so cute, I am rethinking that decision!

krislovesfabric said...

The elephant parade has been a fun sew and these guys look just as cute :)

greeneggs said...

Cute cranky looking zebras. I've heard somewhere that zebras are quite cranky critters, unlike horses, so this seems apt.

Anja @ Anja Quilts said...

I thought the elephants were cute...and then voila....zebras. Hmm...might have to jump on the bandwagon.

Lorna McMahon said...

I am strip piecing the stripes, Charlotte. Once the strips are joined, then the body parts are cut to width from the strip set. Not as bad as you might imagine. LOL!

I am strip piecing the stripes, France. Once the strips are joined, then the body parts are cut to width from the strip set.

Lorna McMahon said...

Thank you, Jasmine! But just to be clear... There is NO paper piecing involved with any of my work. I tried it once and found that method really hurts my brain. Hahaha!

Laura :: zuckerkuss said...

Too sad I missed that moment... ;))

OH I have to see the Zebras! You are just sew cute!! I am enjoying watching the Elephant parade, though I had to resist partaking as I am moving. I have been printing each post in the anticipation of making it once we move in 6 weeks!
