Here's a friendly email I received last week from Tamera.
Hi Lorna,
I wanted to make a special quilt for my daughter's 30th birthday. I showed her some pictures of nice quilts - stars, pinwheels, 9 patches, etc. - but she found a picture of your Dog Gone Quilt online and she just had to have one! The only catch was that she wanted them to look like all the dogs in her life. So began my journey of modifying your wonderful pattern.
I chose to do the smaller squares and added frames and borders to make it the final 54 x 63 inches. I gathered lots of ideas from others who had posted their quilt on your blog and added my own ideas. I ended up with 8 pieced dog faces, 14 pieced paw prints, 8 pieced bones (that I put the dog's names on), and one pieced heart. One of our dogs is named Lorna!!!! :D For fun, I've enclosed a picture of the real dogs versus the quilted dogs so you can see the comparisons.
I hope you enjoy my end result! Thank you so very much for this fantastic quilt-a-long and thanks to everyone for sharing ideas and inspiring me!
When I asked Tamera if it was okay to share her quilt and story with you all, she said, "Yes! Please share my story and pictures! Let me know if you want me to send more pictures of the individual dogs or components for you to look at. I had a lot of fun with this quilt and look forward to following your blog and doing more of your so-very clever and fun patterns! This is my favorite quilt I've ever done and my daughter LOVES it!!!!! ❤ My 25 year old son wants me to make him a pillow with his dog on it! I will use the larger face pattern for that! I hope my story inspires others to have fun, go wild, and be daring with their sewing! Thanks again, Tamera

Tamera did a fantastic job at altering the pattern to create all of her daughters dogs. What a great gift. She will always be warm wrapped up in the love that is in this quilt.
That story is so cute Lorna!
What a sweet, fun and inspiring story! Thank you for sharing!
Oh my - what a labour of love!! The quilt is a real treasure! Love what Tamera did for her daughter; and seeing the comparisons to the real dogs - awesome!!
She made a great quilt with your pattern.
OMG -- the quilt block/dog photo collage is the bomb! Great work, Tamera!
I love the adaptations but my favorite is the Labradors however, they remind me of my Cocker Spaniels. Thanks for sharing.
That is a dog-gone sweet story. Those real and block faces made me smile. What a good job she did.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why quilters make quilts. Yay Tamera, and yay you for making patterns!
Love the story, the quilt and the photos!!! What a great job she did! And what a special quilt I'm sure her daughter will cherish!
