If you love something....
Set it free.....
The Rural Squirrel in Northcott has made it's way to QuiltCon2016.....
And back again.
But before making it's way to sunny California, these squirrels made their way out to the old hay wagon for a midwinter photo shoot. This playful model is on his way down the right side of the quilt.
And this one is on his way up the tree on the left. Dodging snowflakes along the way!
Now for a few close ups of those bright and delightful samplings from the Northcott ColorWorks Concepts, which you can read more about here and here.
I am so excited to have my quilt returned after it's exciting journey. It kind of feels like cheating to say that I had a quilt on display at QuiltCon2016 when I never had to submit this quilt for acceptance by the judges. Perhaps next year?
Thank you to Northcott Fabrics for offering me the opportunity to design a quilt for your booth!!! The making of the Rural Squirrel quilt was so much fun and it was such a pleasure to be able to play with your newest line of ColorWorks Concepts fabrics!
I loved working with the samples from the ColorWorks Concepts line and really enjoyed pairing them up with some bright shades from the ColorWorks Premium Solids collection. The backing fabric is one of my favourites. What a fantastic and fun print!
"Rural Squirrel" in Northcott ColorWorks Concepts finished at approximately 50" x 60"
and was the 81st use of my 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.
The Rural Squirrel quilt is made using traditional methods and is not paper pieced. The pattern provides material requirements, cutting instructions and detailed step-by-step directions. The Rural Squirrel in Brown Neutrals can be seen in this post. And Rural Squirrel in Cotton Couture can be seen here. Really this pattern could work in any combination! If you are interested, the pdf quilt pattern is for sale in my pattern shop.
Thank you for another wonderful photo opportunity.... My trusty old hay wagon. In winter.

love your squirrels!
I love your little squirrels...they look ready to spring to the next branch! I immediately loved the backing fabric too! Something about squares... :) love your trusty hay wagon, too :)
I have to say I've wondered what the trusty hay wagon looked like. It's great for staging your photos, especially these frisky little rural squirrels. Glad they have made it home safe and sound. I'm sure they have had many adventures and met many people during their trip to QuiltCon. But as these little squirrels know, what happens at Quilt Con stays at Quilt Con...well at least for squirrels because they cannot speak :p
Great photos of those colorful fabrics, the darling quilt, and the beautiful winter wagon scene. So glad your love returned to you safely.
This is such a fun quilt! I love bright fabrics (as you may have figured out) ... and the combination with the dark squirrels is fabulous. I also adore your photoshoot setting. I'm jealous of that hay wagon I think...
Beautiful Quilt with these beautiful and bright fabrics. Great Job, Lorna! We used to have an old plow and harrow as lawn ornaments when we lived in the country. That old plow once plowed that piece of land in the early 1900's - I love that kind of history. Love your hay wagon as your quilt props.
I think your squirrels are wonderful and I am admiring your work so much. Thank you for sharing your story.
I am so glad it made it home safe and sound with you. Wouldn't it be fun to know of all the adventures it went on? I suppose we will just have to use our imaginations. :)
I would love to know when you will have a hard copy of your pattern for Rural Squirrel and Forest Friends - PDF's will only print b/w on my printer and I would love to see colors and something that I can pencil mark if need be. Thanks
Thank you, Cathy44647. We are looking into getting printed patterns in place this year. And I am so glad to hear you are looking forward to this!
What a beautiful and fun quilt! I really love that backing .
Your photo shoot was awesome for this quilt!!
Every cute detail really pops out at you !!
How fun to have it go to QuiltCon !

Love these squirrels. The fabric is gorgeous. Colours are bright and perfect for a baby quilt. Glad that Yvonne was able to take a picture of it hanging at QuiltCon.
Love your animal patterns. Enjoyed making the reindeer last year for a donation quilt. But what finally struck me with a big ah---ha! was seeing how you got your quilts to hang on your fence. I have a similar (although not as rustic) fence and I have been hanging the top over the edge. Well, duh! I have the right size clips and I will be using them for the next photo op. Enjoy your blog.
I just love this quilt design and it photographs so wonderfully against the white winter background!
great photo shoot! love the quilt.
I saw it at Quilt Con and it was beautiful!
So glad your wee squirrel-ys made it home safely to you. And the more I look at them, the more I want some of that Northcott Colourworks line!
This is such a fun and playful quilt! I just love the Squirrels tails. Glad this quilt made it home, I am sure it was admired by many at Quilt con.
Such a fun and cute pattern! I love squirrels. :-). And those photos are just beautiful.
