After finishing the quilting on the third quilt in a row last week, I was looking for some play time.
I dug into my Kate Spain Sunnyside scraps and worked on piecing a pair of doll quilts. Each quilt is 18" x 20" and are suitable for any 18" doll. I know the American Girl dolls are very popular. And up here in The Great White North, the Canadian girls I know all have Maplelea Girl dolls.
My 'little' girl is now 14 years old, and does not have any dolls. She actually never did like playing with dolls. So I don't have a pretty dolly to model these little quilts to show how they measure up.
While I was at it, I decided to make matching pillows for these quilts. And plan to post a little tutorial in case anyone is interested in how I made them. They have french seams, so they won't fray or have any loose threads!
The quilting was done using the serpentine stitch that comes on my Aunt Elna.
I used my favourite binding method to give those edges a little extra zing!
Each little quilt was made with a pieced backing and both are almost identical!
Sew what is new with you???
Before you go....
Check out the GIVEAWAY going on now!
Today is the last day to enter.

Good morning, Lorna! I do like the quilts, and that serpentine stitch, and the idea of pillows, too!
I never heard of these dolls and I had to smile seeying one with full ice hockey gear :-) Pretty quilts.
Very cute baby quilts Lorna! I love the little pillows and would love to see a tutorial. My little 4 year old would love some for her dollies!
The colours really zing. Is the quilting a free-motion stitch, or do you have a long arm that has some kind of programmable pantograph?
They are gorgeous - really lovely colours. love the serpentine stitch, I have it on my small Pfaff and love it!
Beautiful doll quilts, Lorna and the tiny pillows look so cute.
Those pillows are just too cute! I love the shape of them. I have yet to try that stitch, but I love the look of it.
Good morning-oh my doll pillows to go with your doll quilt-just too sweet! Love it!
when I was a child I was not very in to dolls either. I did get a Tony doll for Christmas one year though and my Mom had made a huge wardrobe for her-she sits in my craft room now. Her hair was such we could style it-wash-give her a tony perm-lol
I look forward to your pillow case tutorial-I always thought that was such a nice touch to have a matching pillow case to match our quilts.
Cute, Lorna! Aren't doll quilts fun? I'll have to check out your tutorial because I've never tried French seams.
Aren't those adorable! Thank you so much for hosting!
Those doll quilts and pillows are just too cute! I don't have daughters, but I now have my own American Girl dolls to make doll quilts for. I will have to try using a serpentine stitch like this.
I love the doll quilts! They are so pretty and the pillow case...perfect addition!
Love that doll quilt-hmmm maybe I should make some for my local craft sale! More ways to use scraps, YEAH!
What darling little quilts and what a light bulb moment! My granddaughter loves playing with my American Girl dolls when she comes over and I don't know why I never even thought of doing a quilt. Thank you for this!
They are adorable! Very well done. I really like your binding!

Your quilts are cute! I did that for my grand daughters...but instead of a pillow, I made them a matching "diaper bag" for their dolls. And then the one said she didn't like dolls so I told her to take her quilt outside and lay it on the ground to sit on and go gather "backyard treasures" in her bag! She loved it! Now they all three do that and leave their dolls inside!!! I just joined to be part of Bee Social Linky Party! Look forward to alot of inspiration!
