Let's Bee Social #110

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

This week the Ugly Christmas Sweaters QAL has begun. So I thought I better come up with a cute project to use the off cuts. Here is my project in progress. Doing some tight organic wavy line quilting.

This project is made using the off cuts from the triangle corners that are cut when making the shoulders of the sweater. I normally throw away the little triangles, but these are large enough to give you some bonus 2.5" HST's. And I thought throwing them away would be a shame. More to come in a future post!

Remember back a few weeks ago when I mentioned that it was very rare that someone would send me an email sharing something they were making using one of my patterns or tutorials? Well, when it rains it pours! I am so glad I mentioned in that post how much I love to see what you make. Because each week someone sends me a new picture!

This is the Family of Three (a.k.a. Giraffe Family) quilt, made by my friend, Sigi. Sigi shared with me how she had to search around to find a copy of that Quiltmaker Magazine issue to find the instructions for this quilt. But find it she did! And here is her version of that little giraffe family!

Here is the back of the quilt. She made another little baby giraffe for the backing. So cute!

Sent in by Colleen, these two next photos are some Zany Zebra quilt tops in progress. I love these zig zag zebraz!

The Zany Zebra quilt block is a free tutorial that you can find on my blog.

It's your turn for Show and Tell!!!

The giraffe family and the zebras are so cute!! I love what you are doing with the triangles left from the ugly sweaters. Triangles make really useful things and this one is not only useful but is shaping into a very attractive quilt.

So glad you decided not to throw the little triangles away this time - the bonus blocks are looking great!!

You are so creative Lorna! Love the quilt you are making with the saved HST's - it looks like little pieces of shattered glass. Beautiful! Thank you for sharing what others make - it is a great motivator. I might have to try the zebra quilt next. Love the little added bird in it and the fabrics used. Love how you designed the giraffe quilt - it goes together wonderfully and looks so realistic.

Lots of bright triangles in your "left overs" quilt. The zebra quilts are such fun. It's always fun to see how different people interpret a pattern.

Lorna - one of my favourite things is using those little cutoffs!!!!! OH - I need to make one of your patterns. I have the magazine to make the giraffe. I want to make EVERYTHING!!!!! Love your stuff. Elaine

If the corner scraps are big enough...they must be saved and used! I love what you did! It's a fun and funky design, I especially love the print!

I love the background print in your off cuts quilt! And I love what you did with those scraps. It always feels bad to throw fabric away. Way to save that fabric from oblivion!

The giraffe and zebra quilts are adorable...thanks for sharing! Aren't you so glad your readers sent in more photos? I'm so happy for you because I know that must be thrilling.

What a quick and easy second quilt you're making out of the leftovers from your Christmas Sweater quilt! Maybe your QAL participants will be inspired, and send you photos of their leftover quilts! Wouldn't that be fun?

I have to admit I'm guilty of tossing my small left over triangles. You have me curious to what you have come up with using your scraps. You are such a tease with that cute little sneak peek ;)

You know I am a sucker for triangles...your use of the scraps looks super cute!!! Way better than seeing all those little triangles in the trash can *GASP*!!!!! I am excited to start a Forest Friends wallhanging, or table runner, hopefully yet this month!!! And you will DEFINITELY see progress pics!!! LOL!!! :D

I hope you don't mind that I added two links, but I had two quilt finishes and I just had to show them both! I used bonus triangles for the label of the Dog Gone Cute quilt. The giraffe quilt is really cute. The zebras are tempting me to go back and make more zebras! The zig zag zebras are so cute! And so fun to say too!

So great that you used the scraps to make a cozy quilt to cheer up the blah days of winter! It's really fun for us too to see the quilts other people have made with your patterns Lorna! I love the addition of the little giraffe on the back of Sigi's.

Thank you for the linkup. Your cute use of the cut-offs from ugly sweater would have been a great entry in the Confetti challenge for this years Project Quilting!

Girl you have found your genre!! It must be sooo cool to see your patterns taking off like they are...and lucky us!!!

Nice use of the cast off triangles. Love the quilting lines too. I save all my various sized HST in a little tub. Someday I'll make them into something.

Hi Lorna, What a great way to use up those pieces we just can't throw away and end up keeping in the closet in a bow for too many years !
