Hillside Houses QAL finish

After all these weeks of piecing the blocks...
And fixing a few last minute mistakes...
Hillside Houses is finished!

I lucked out when looking for what to use for the backing. Wanting to use some of my older stashed fabrics, I found a few yards of this pretty clam shell print called Yoshiko from Blank Quilting 2006, which was also used for the binding. I made a pieced backing with a grey strip down the middle made from Widescreen Crosshatch in Grey by Caroline Friedlander for Robert Kaufman Fabrics.

I really had no idea how I was going to quilt this. But when the time came, I went with Superior Threads' Omni #3023 in Light Grey on top and in the bobbin. And made those organic wavy lines using my walking foot. The grey thread blends in nicely with all the bright Kona cotton solids on the front and with that bright backing.

There have been many inquiries as to how I quilt those wavy lines. And requests for a tutorial. So this time I got my daughter to film while I was quilting and I have uploaded this short video if you are interested. This is my video debut!

Click here to go see the video on my YouTube channel. Don't forget to subscribe there too!

The binding was sewn first to the front of the quilt. And then "stitched in the ditch" along the binding from the front to catch the fold on the back. This was my fourth attempt at this method and I am getting better at it. It's difficult to get a consistent width of the binding folded over to the back of the quilt. I think I will try glue basting the fold over next time and see how that goes. I love the scalloped look of that print along the binding edges!

This Hillside Houses quilt was the 43rd use of my 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

The Hillside Houses is offered as a free quilt along,
by Cristina of Pretty Little Quilts,
and the details are available here.

Thank you for a really fun quilt along, Cristina!

This Hillside Houses quilt finished at approximately 60" x 75"and is for sale in my Etsy Shop here. Kinda have my fingers crossed that this one doesn't sell. I have never actually kept one of my quilts for myself before and this one is the perfect size for me!

Linking up to Finish it up Friday with
Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts

And with Adrienne of Chezzetcook Modern Quilts.
She's hosting TGIFF this week!

Let's Bee Social #78

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

Did any of you read this blog post about using Pinterest, posted by Diana of Red Delicious Life? This really got me thinking. I have been using Pinterest for quite some time. But my boards really need some housekeeping help.

Then I came across an article by Stephanie of tinyshop.co. Because I am signed up to follow by email, I received this informative guide for Pinterest. If you are a Pinterest Pinner you might find this guide useful! Yes, I am taking to you Lara of BuzzinBumble!

Another interesting read from last week was by Terri Ann of Childlike Fascination. She wrote this post and I thought she made a lot of good points. Do you let visitors know where they are when they land on your blog's home page? Do you greet them at the front door like an old friend? Do you have an About Page so we can get to know a little more about you?

Summer Time - Sweet Watermelon table decor

Back in April 2014, I designed a quilted table setting for a guest post on Sew Can She.  I really liked this design, which uses equilateral triangles to make place mats, a long runner, and a hexagon table topper.

https://payhip.com/SewFreshQuilts
Each Place Mat finishes at 20" x 12"
https://payhip.com/SewFreshQuilts
Hexagonal Table Topper finishes at 30" across at flat sides and 34" from point to point
https://payhip.com/SewFreshQuilts
Table Runner finishes at 60" x 12"

This has been one of my best selling patterns. The only trouble is.... It's hard to find suitable background fabric. So I went on Spoonflower and uploaded a similar design, featuring black ants on a white background.

In celebration of the first day of Summer 2015, I am offering the Sweet Watermelon Table Decor pattern, and all my patterns, for HALF PRICE. All you have to do to receive this 50% off discount price is to share it on social media via twitter or facebook.

How? It's so easy!!! Head to my Payhip Pattern Shop. Click on a pattern you like. This will open the page for the details on the pattern. On the right hand side, below the price, you will see a "Share & get 50% off" button. Click on that button and share to your social media. Easy peasy and you get a half price pattern!!!

The Sweet Watermelon pattern is available in my Pattern Shop here.

Sweet Watermelon:  Sweet and juicy.... Nothing says summer like a fresh cut watermelon! Learn how to strip piece, rotary cut and machine piece the equilateral triangle to make this delectable set of watermelon table decor.

Instructions for each of the three designs is included in this pattern. This charming design uses equilateral triangle piecing to create any of the three samples shown:  Long Runner, Hexagon Table Topper, and set of 4 Place Mats

This fresh pattern provides a detailed guide to each aspect in the construction.  It is a simple pattern and would be easy for even the most novice quilter to make.

Hope you have a wonderful first day of Summer.

Have a slice of watermelon and enjoy!
