As I've said before, this type of piecing is not normal for me. I don't usually don't do improv. But I enjoyed making the wonky slab blocks and using up some familiar scraps.
The backing and binding are Doe Eyed from the Moon Shine collection by Tula Pink for Free Spirit. I bought about 4 yards of this when it went on sale at Mad About Patchwork quite a while ago. I am trying hard to work from stash this year. And it feels good to find a project that this fabric suits. Bees on the backing and binding for a BEE block quilt!
I still have enough blocks remaining to make a larger quilt for next month's link up. And then these quilts are on their way to London to be delivered to the Ronald McDonald House Children's Hospitals. It is my hope that all of the blocks and quilts we are making will bring a little joy and comfort to children in need.
Are you joining me for the Sew Fresh Quilt Bee?!!!
I'm happy to have you join the hive! To read all about the Sew Fresh Quilt Bee click here.
Special thanks to Rita of Fabric Please! for providing some prizes for those who participate.
To recap.... the SEW FRESH QUILT BEE will run until May 17, 2017. The deadline for mailing blocks and unfinished tops is May 30th. Mailing information can be found here. You DON'T have to be Canadian to participate. But you do have to be prepared to mail your blocks to this Canadian address.
On the last Monday of each month, I will be posting about my progress and will be providing a continuing linky party where participants will have the opportunity to link up and share their progress, as well. You can join in the linky party each time you have made blocks. You can link up from a blog post, Flickr photo, or Instagram post. That gives you seven opportunities to join in the PARTY!
If you would like to participate,
PLEASE BEE A HONEY
and put the Sew Fresh Quilt Bee button on your blog!
I love the look of your improv blocks, it looks great! The wavy lines quilting is perfect for it, adding just a touch of texture but letting the blocks shine. Where did you get those custom quilt labels / ribbons printed? I'd love to do something like that, as putting on a label the traditional way is just way too much work.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt! You did a beautiful job of each block!
ReplyDeleteThe blue really brings the improv of these blocks all together , and as it's my favourite tones of blue I am slightly biased
ReplyDeleteI love your version of this quilt Lorna. You were quite brave and inventive in putting your slabs together.
