KONA Fox Kits |
Well, I do! And I have great news for those of you with a healthy dose of fabric obsession.
It seems, and rightly so, the focus is on the fabrics. However, enshrining that coveted bundle of goodness on a shelf, to gaze upon it and offer the occasional loving caress, will never allow you to fully appreciate it's true beauty. If you love something, set it free...
When you are ready to let go, keep in mind this list of key features for today's modern quilts:
- bright colors
- simple shapes
- bold patterns
- text - both in prints and on quilts
- low volume
- birds and woodland creatures
- quilting that accentuates the design
Hello and welcome to Sew Fresh Quilts!
Your next stop on the Wake Up to KONA hop!
Madame Samm has come up with the perfect hop to kick off 2014! This one is sponsored by Robert Kaufman, maker of KONA cotton solids, Aurifil, and C&T Publishing. These folks are all promoting the gorgeous new book, Color Essentials, by the amazingly talented Amanda Murphy!
Drop in to Sew We Quilt and take a look around! Madame Samm and her crew are always hard at work, organizing a great line up of new and exciting blog hops to take part in. Her hops are a great way to meet loads of friendly quilters and have a great time! Thank you, Madame Samm!
I would also like to thank Carol of Just Let Me Quilt. That other lady, Carol is quite a motivator and she is our lovely cheerleader for the KONA hop. Thank you, Carol!
AND I really must thank my new friend Pam, too!
She runs the show at Mad About Patchwork and supplied my purchase of KONA Solids. Lickety split - she shipped them right into my mailbox - sew I could get started right away! Thank you, Pam!
Let's just say...... I could NOT resist!
I had my fabric inspiration. But what to do???
My design inspiration may have come this. Something I drew a number of years ago.
Using the Sunset palette as a base, I added contrast to those cool shades
with some Kumquat and Papaya flavoured foxes.
with some Kumquat and Papaya flavoured foxes.
Foxes seem to be quite trendy and I once read they are the 'new owl' in quilting.
Let's hope so!
This quilt measures 44" x 48" and was made entirely from KONA solids.
Choosing the size of quilt to make was the most difficult decision in creating this design.
Choosing the size of quilt to make was the most difficult decision in creating this design.
Two Sunset charm packs and additional blue yardage were used to make the leaves and background of this quilt. Earth was used to make the tree and its branches.
Kumquat and Papaya, Black and Snow were used to make the fox kits. I wanted to keep the applique to a minimum, so this design is entirely piecework except for the facial features.
Charm packs allowed for a wonderful variation of shades for both the leaves and the background.
The backing and binding make use of the remaining yardage.
For both the top and bobbin, I quilted using three different varieties of variegated Fantastico threads by Superior Threads.
I was sew pleased with the service provided by Pam of Mad About Patchwork!
Shortly after receiving my order, I inquired if she would be interested in sponsoring a giveaway.
She graciously agreed!
