In case you weren't aware, there are now only 69 days left until Christmas!
Quite long, this Modern Christmas Holiday Runner measures 48.75" x 12"
Holiday Sparkle by Nina Seven for Wilmington Prints - used for the backing and also for the binding.
It had been quite a while since I used this tutorial for making the flanged binding.
And I love how it compliments the piece work!
Those Holiday fabrics were all leftovers from making the Holiday Sparkle quilt.
Good thing I did not know what I was doing when I cut squares instead of rectangles in preparation for making the failed attempt at hexagons.
Otherwise, I would not have had these remnants from my Holiday Frost fat quarters!

What else have I been doing?
Well, I have been busy working on a wolf quilt for my son.
I have finished the top, but will not be able to post about this quilt until mid November.
Reason being - I am taking part in the For The Boys blog hop hosted by Madame Samm.
Amy of Sew Incredibly Crazy is our head cheerleader for that event! That is such a long way off.
So, I am offering this sneak peek....

And here are the blocks made from the leftovers.
Working on a design using white for the background to provide a little negative space.

I would also like to share with you my new method for storing quilts - on pool noodles. That's right. Pool noodles. Rolling your quilts around a pool noodle prevents the permanent crease marks that occur when you fold your quilts. I stocked up and got 6 pool noodles this weekend!
Quilt storage - rolled onto pool noodles |
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Happy quilting!
Lorna:)
I love your Christmas table runner, Lorna. Those fabrics are just fabulous! :o)
ReplyDeleteI am definitely stealing your quilt storage method! It seems perfect!
ReplyDeleteThose pool noodles are a great idea!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! What a storage idea! I don't have many quilts to store so we just fold it and use it, lol.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful runner, Lorna! I have to say you are really using your noodle here! You have inspired me with all of your Christmas Creations! I am just waiting for your countdown to get closer, I will need the rush of holiday adrenaline!
ReplyDeleteYep...I roll my quilts too. I also use strips of leftover bindings to tie around them.
ReplyDeleteLove the projects! especially the table runner. The gray and red look great!
Table runner is so festive! It will fit my table well! :)I am not sure I want to know how many days until Christmas! LOL ! Hmmm I may have to invest in some noodles. Great way to store quilts. I believe most of my quilts are sitting out in display!
ReplyDeleteLove the table runner, really like the red and grey together
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of pool noodles for storing quilts! I have to grumble about the reminder that Christmas is in 69 days! ; )
ReplyDeleteLove the table runner. I store quilts layered flat on a spare bed. Also have a antique wardrobe that I use..fold and put each quilt in a pillowcase. I take them out and refold occasionally as batting remembers folds. Some are on racks for easy access on cold winter days.
ReplyDeleteMan oh man...your use of every single scrap piece of fabric is amazing. Those wolves are so striking. How does one store the quilt wrapped noodles? I just fold mine and have them stacked on open wire shelving.
ReplyDeleteCute table runner, love the red and grey combo! The pool noodle is a neat idea as well.
ReplyDeleteYour table runner is great!
ReplyDeleteStorage idea is a good one too!
Yes indeed. That flanged binding does compliment the piece. I love it.
ReplyDeleteLove the table runner and the pool noodles are a great idea! Several ladies round here use them. For table toppers or Wall hangings I use wrapping paper cardboard rolls for storage - taking care to cover with muslin first to avoid stains or acid on the quilts, Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Pool noodles! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I'm always a fan of your work and ideas!!!
ReplyDeleteCute cute table runner. And a great storage idea. We live near a carpet mfg facility and I use the cardboard tube that carpet is rolled on. I tie three strips of leftover scraps or selvage around the quilt and tube and I put two holes in one end and hang them on an over the door hanger to the inside of the closet to keep light away. This is just the quilt top, not completed quilt. Pool noodles would not be as heavy. yay shopping trip. lol..
ReplyDeleteHope you dont lose your noodle.

The table runner is gorgeous! 69 days? Each year I say I'm going to make a quilted tree skirt and haven't yet. Maybe I need to get cracking on that!!

ReplyDeleteYikes... Only 69 days until Christmas!! You will be ready with your pretty runner; I love the colors! Your wolf quilt looks like a very special make too. I love the pool noodle idea. Do you have a place you can lay them down or do you stand the noodle in a closet corner?

ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting way to store quilts. I only own one quilt and it gets 'stored' on our spare bed. I have just finished making my first quilt, but it's a gift for someone else, so no storage problems there :)
The table runner looks great, I've never heard of a flanged binding - I love it! Machine-sewn binding sounds good to me.
ReplyDeleteLoving your table runner Lorna!!! Fabulous. What a great way to store quilts....I just fold mine and refold a different way every so often.

ReplyDeleteI store my quilts along the railing in my cabin and also in an antique giant buffet cabinet I found at a consignment store. I need more space.

ReplyDeleteLove your table runner. It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnd cool way to store quilts. At my quilt guild meeting this week, a friend of my mom came and did a trunk show for us bringing over 40 quilts. They had been folded for so long they had permanent creases in them. She mentioned she needed to find a way to roll them and keep them from squishing. I think I have an answer to her problem, thanks to you.
How wonderful Christmas table runner and cool wolves!
ReplyDeleteI love your works. :D
