The applique birds were fun and easy to make. You'll find that this GO! Bird die is the perfect size for using your charm squares. Or using up some of your small scraps!
From my front yard, I will often see a row of birds resting along the power line. And I knew this GO! Bird die would be ideal for transferring this picture to fabric. The backing, binding and bird fabrics are all from the Robin's Egg collection by Island Batik.
I used a tight zig-zag stitch to appliqué my birds onto the background. Then I quilted this runner with my walking foot in organic wavy lines along the length, using plain white Guetermann polyester thread on top and in the bobbin.
For the backing I chose this print because of the colours and the texture. Reminds me of a blue alligator, but I love how it makes that binding pop!
"Birds on a Wire" finished at approximately 10" x 42"
and was the 55th use of my 100 labels

ReplyDeleteLorna, This is just darling, love the fun fabrics!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great way to use the bird die cut Lorna! I love the clean and minimal look of it. You are right that it would make great modern wall art or a table runner.
ReplyDeleteThis is as cute as a bug (or should I say bird)! Love the size of the bird as well. Quite lovely!

ReplyDeleteSo incredibly sweet, Lorna! I love this! I think it would look so sweet incorporated into a boy's baby quilt too. Absolutely love it! This will be added to my quilting list! Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow adorable! It is just perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is really sweet Lorna, like the colors too. The simple design is what really caught my attention. For some reason I'm drawn to simple things now.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful piece. The blues are so striking. Blue Jays on a wire. Love it.
ReplyDeleteReally sweet birdies! Love the blues as well!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first started quilting I bought a book of modern quilts that had birds on a wire in it. I have always wanted to make that quilt. I never thought of a table runner. Duh! I love your blues. Another great finish
ReplyDeleteI love the striking simplicity of this. And your blues remind me of my family's old delftware.
ReplyDeleteI love that you did this with a die cutter! So simple but so beautiful! I just won a Sizzix fabi, so I'm working on my first project with it. I'll be linking it up on Wednesday. :)
ReplyDeleteI love birds so much, haven't done a bird project yet though. I adore the fabrics you chose, especially against that background. I gotta get me some o'that!
ReplyDeleteOhh, I just looked closer - in one photo the background looks kind of like a light beige linen, sorry if that other comment seemed a little strange...
ReplyDeleteThey're so cute!
ReplyDeleteOh the AccuQuilt. This cuteness is not helping me resist getting one of those things!
