These little puppy pillows were made using one large block and one small block from my Dog Gone Cute pattern. I just added borders around the blocks and then made my own pillow forms to fit. I stuffed them with some poly fill I found in a box when I moved into the new sewing studio.
For the pillows I quilted the blocks and then put the backing with right sides facing instead of having to bind these pillows like I did when I made the Happy Turtle zippered pillow for my niece. The zippers are still hidden beneath these flaps on the back.
The large block pillow finished at 14" x 21".
And the small block pillow finished at 9" x 12".
These pillows were made to match the maxi size Dog Gone Cute quilt, and in keeping with that, I used my fave organic wavy lines with my walking foot using a 3.3 stitch length using a light grey Superior Threads' So Fine! #30 on top and plain white Guetermann polyester thread in the bobbin. I had picked up this orange chicken fabric quite a while ago. Just could not resist that fat quarter. Kept picking it up and putting it down. But the picking it up won out. And I think it looks so cute on the mama dog!

Hi Lorna! They look all together so fantastic! I'm sure Nero would be really happy for a pillow with a friend on it! x Teje
ReplyDeleteAw Lorna, those cushions are so cute, and show off the individual blocks perfectly! And you're right, that set looks great! I'm off to my quilt group this morning and will be trying my begs to get another block done... When the chitchat dies down that is :) have a great weekend X

ReplyDeleteYour pillows are so cute and definitely complement the Dog Gone Quilt. Yes, I LOVE your Dog Gone Cute Blocks and am following along, but will wait till I have all before starting........and, my sewing machine broke - a day before my birthday.......ahhhhhhhh! It's an oldy, but they tell me it is worth fixing, so we'll see.
ReplyDeleteSuper, super cute, Lorna!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a fun pattern!! I started with a notion to make a baby quilt which grew to a twin size and is currently done and quilted and living on our couch :) Will look forward to revealing it on the 6th. Those puppies are addictive! Your pillows are a great touch, love them.

Those two pillows are the perfect complement to the quilt. What a beautiful gift that would make!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to start my blocks. Love your finished pillows and your quilt.
ReplyDeleteYou pillows are just too dog gone cute! I don't have time for the QAL BUT I do have time to make a pillow! My daughter needs a pillow for circle time in school and this is purr-fect! Thank you for the great pattern! You rock!
ReplyDeleteThose two pillows make for a Dog Gone Cute set Lorna! The trio are so wonderful! You sure have a lot of fun lined up with this project! I somehow missed about your new sewing space and need to go look for that post.
ReplyDeleteI do like the cushions to match the quilt, and great choice of fabrics to contrast the doggies so well.
ReplyDeleteWait - I have to be the one that tells you - using chicken fabric for the dog is crazy. (Never mind the fact that it works and looks really cute!) It's crazy. (Also - I'm going to go see what fabrics I have. Oh I have little bears! Yay!)
ReplyDeleteAdorable pillows! Do you have a tutorial for putting the zipper and backing together or is there one you can recommend? :)
ReplyDeleteThose pillows are soooooo cute! I've been planning to use one of the big blocks to make a pillow for our oldest daughter's partner for Christmas and modeling it after their rescue dog. So it was good to see that it will work like I've imagined.
ReplyDeleteVery lovely. I'm seeing these cute dogs all over the place! Brilliant work, m'dear :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness....The cute chicken fabric is adorable! What a fun bed to cuddle up in with the quilt and pillows.
ReplyDeleteThis has got to be the cutest pattern ever. Makes me wish my son was little again. And the chicken fabric is so cute too. Have a great weekend. Debbie
ReplyDeleteVery cute puppies!!! I'm up to three blocks now. Is there a tutorial you follow for adding the zipper to the back? I haven't tried a zipper yet on pillows.
ReplyDeleteYep! Those are adorable. Any little boy would LOVE the quilt and pillows. My own boys would have fought over them until there were three sets. :-) I really do miss those days.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love the two sizes of pillows, they are adorable together.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adorable and made even cuter by your fabric and colour choices.
ReplyDeleteI love the orange dogs and especially the chicken fabric! Doggone cute!!!
