Dog Gone Cute Zippered Pillows

These little puppy pillows were made using one large block and one small block from my Dog Gone Cute pattern. I just added borders around the blocks and then made my own pillow forms to fit. I stuffed them with some poly fill I found in a box when I moved into the new sewing studio.

For the pillows I quilted the blocks and then put the backing with right sides facing instead of having to bind these pillows like I did when I made the Happy Turtle zippered pillow for my niece. The zippers are still hidden beneath these flaps on the back.

The large block pillow finished at 14" x 21".

And the small block pillow finished at 9" x 12".

These pillows were made to match the maxi size Dog Gone Cute quilt, and in keeping with that, I used my fave organic wavy lines with my walking foot using a 3.3 stitch length using a light grey Superior Threads' So Fine! #30 on top and plain white Guetermann polyester thread in the bobbin. I had picked up this orange chicken fabric quite a while ago. Just could not resist that fat quarter. Kept picking it up and putting it down. But the picking it up won out. And I think it looks so cute on the mama dog!

All in all.... I think those two pillows make for a Dog Gone Cute set paired up with the quilt!

Have you been following along on the Dog Gone Cute quilt along blog hop? The instructions for the first four dog blocks have been posted already. And there are four more dog blocks to come in the next two Tuesdays. Then there is a full month to get your project quilted up while the blog hop participants show you what they made. Then there is a linky party where we can all get together and show off our Dog Gone Cuteness! Click here to read all about it!

  11. I do like the cushions to match the quilt, and great choice of fabrics to contrast the doggies so well.

  12. Wait - I have to be the one that tells you - using chicken fabric for the dog is crazy. (Never mind the fact that it works and looks really cute!) It's crazy. (Also - I'm going to go see what fabrics I have. Oh I have little bears! Yay!)

  14. Those pillows are soooooo cute! I've been planning to use one of the big blocks to make a pillow for our oldest daughter's partner for Christmas and modeling it after their rescue dog. So it was good to see that it will work like I've imagined.

  18. Very cute puppies!!! I'm up to three blocks now. Is there a tutorial you follow for adding the zipper to the back? I haven't tried a zipper yet on pillows.

  19. Yep! Those are adorable. Any little boy would LOVE the quilt and pillows. My own boys would have fought over them until there were three sets. :-) I really do miss those days.
