Sunday Stash - It's a HEATWAVE!

Those of you who tuned in on Wednesday for the Let's Bee Social will be familiar with my latest obsession - Dog Gone Cute quilt blocks. While I have enough for a quilt top finished now, I do not have enough of the Kona Coal that is used for the background. I found what I thought was another large piece of Coal in my stash and cut it up for the sashing and borders. It's not until I put the iron to them to press the seams that the difference became apparent.

From the scraps of Coal I managed to squeak out most of one little pup. The big dog block finishes at 18" x 12" and the little dog block is half sized, finishing at 9" x 6". Isn't he Dog Gone Cute?

I headed over to my Kona Cotton Solids supplier headquarters, aka Mad About Patchwork to order some more Kona Coal for my background. And, to my delight, what did I discover???

Although the Coal is not in stock, it is expected to arrive at the beginning of next week. Meanwhile, there is a Summer Sale going on to help me bide my time until the Coal comes in!

Save 20% on selected fabrics with coupon HEATWAVE through August 15 (minimum half yard cuts).

Some of these were found in the Summer Sale section and were added to my cart somehow.

Fat quarters of Sketch Basic in White/Black, Stepping Stones in Raven, Distrikt Babble in White, and Basics Netorious in Black Cat. And half yard cuts of Doe Lightning in Blue and Doe Droplet in Sky.

Although I am NOT a red person, I could not resist this full yard piece of Picnic Blanket in Red by Cotton & Steel. I thought it would make a really striking binding for something. Someday.

And how cute is that binding? Super cute!

While I was in the Kona section I decided it was about time I tested out some other grays that could be used for backgrounds on something. I was using Kona Petal for the inside of those dogs' ears and picked up a yard of Petal, 4 yards of Steel and 2 yards of Graphite.

Those two, the Steel and the Graphite are so close. I will need plenty of natural light and my "quilting glasses" to keep me from mixing them up!

Keep On Quilting On!

  5. Coming across a fabric sale brightens any quilter's day. Lately I've been buying and cutting up 108" wide backing fabric for the backgrounds of my pieced blocks. This fabric is three yards wide, but only costs about $5 more per yard than 42" fabric. Can't beat that--unless it's on sale. And this morning I found some on sale online. A day brightener for sure! 10. Keeping Konas labeled really helps me out a lot. The differences between some (like the graphite and steel here) are so subtle! The mini pup block is super cute. :)

  11. I hate when I'm just a tiny bit short! And then when you have two separate purchases of the same color only to find out they don't match! I love you grey selections!

  12. Isn't it funny how fabric ends up in one's virtual shopping cart without one even being aware of it? It's like subliminal fabric purchasing. As for the greys, hmm... if you had a colour card, it might help! ;)
