Elephant Parade {redo}

It was back in January that I first posted about the Elephant Parade and my inspiration for this cute quilt. This was quickly followed up with an Elephant Parade Quilt Along, which many of you participated in and helped to cheer us on as we paraded through until March.

A couple of weeks ago I showed my newly completed Elephant Parade quilt top in the Let's Bee Social post here.  And yesterday, I decided it was about time I got her basted, quilted and bound!

I could only baste half of the quilt at a time at my kitchen table. And then I brought Aunt Elna out and we made quick work of the quilting using the Serpentine stitch. I set my stitch length to 3.5 and width to 9, which is the maximum.

This decorative stitch gives a wavy and whimsical movement to the parade. Don't you think?

This frog.... he's not quite sure what to think!

The backing, too, is just about the same as my first Elephant Parade quilt. I reordered the Elephants in Gray from the Happy Drawing collection by Ed Emberley for Cloud 9 Fabrics. But this time I added a strip of grey instead of the original blue.

Once again, I used the Little Bit Binding method and I love those pops of colour around the edges - matching the critters in the parade. This quilt finished at approximately 48" x 55" and you can see my original Elephant Parade quilt finish post here.

This Elephant Parade {redo} quilt was the 48th use of my 100 labels ordered from Ikaprint.

When I first started quilting, I couldn't imagine enjoying remaking the same quilt more than once. But I am enjoying the remaking process on this and other projects. Now I find myself thinking of how to make things differently the second time around. So many ideas....

You may want to check out this linky party, too.
There are lots of beautiful and unique quilts linked up! If you have made a quilt, or any quilted item, using the Elephant Parade pattern, please feel free to add your post about it to the Elephant Parade Never Ending Linky Party here.

  1. Just as cute as the first one. I messed up my elephant parade quilt. My pressure foot pressure was set too high. I had a lot of distortion. It sits, unfinished, until I decide what I'm going to do with it. On a happy note, my zebras are almost finished!

  3. I love this quilt. I've been to many Norwegian quilt shops to find the background fabric. But now I think I have to use another in between the rows.

  4. Yeah for elephants. I still haven't got one done, and you're already on your second one. There are not enough hours in the day for me to do all the great projects I keep seeing.

  8. It's just as darling as the first one ; ) Can't believe you only basted half the quilt and didn't get puckers!

    1. Oh, no Carla... I only basted half the quilt AT A TIME. After basting what was supported by the table, I slid it up and let the pinned half hang over the edge of the table. Then I pinned the other half. Yes, I can bet it definitely would have been a problem otherwise. I'm no magician! Hahahaha! Presenting the AMAZING... (insert drum roll here please) Lorna of Sew Fresh Quilts!!!

  13. I love this quilt. It was such fun this spring to watch so many as they made their blocks in the qal. I had to resist at the time because I just have so many other things on the go but this quilt is on my list of future quilts to make for sure.
