Quiltmaker Magazine and the Giraffe Family

Aside from sewing squirrels...
And the Little Blooms quilt blocks I showed earlier this week...
And making my house blocks for the Hillside Houses quilt along...

I have also been working on some secret sewing projects. I was contacted by Quiltmaker Magazine. As well as being offered an opportunity to submit a block for their next 100 Blocks, I was also approached to make a submission for a baby quilt to be featured in an upcoming issue.

I am not very good at keeping quilty secrets. This quilt, Giraffe Family, is not due for publication until December first when their Jan/Feb 2016 issue goes on sale. Of course, I can't share the finish yet, but I do have to spill some of the details now! It's too exciting to hold it all in!

Jungle Party by Edward Miller for Robert Kaufman and coordinating Kona Cotton Solids

Robert Kaufman Fabrics kindly sponsored this project and a package containing the Kona Cotton Solids for the front and coordinating Jungle Party backing fabric arrived a couple of weeks ago.

Elaborating on an earlier design called Giraffe Love, I drew up a revised design on grid paper and wrote myself out a pattern to follow. Yes. There are giraffes.

This Giraffe Family baby quilt was the 42nd use of my 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

Giraffe Family for Quiltmaker Magazine January/February 2016

This finish features my favourite organic wavy line quilting. And a matched binding. Although I have not shared any details in this post, the 12 inch block submission was sent along in the same mailing as the quilt.

I am so looking forward to sharing more details and pictures later this fall!
