And I want to tell you all how great you made me feel. All those sweet compliments and kind comments really meant a lot to me and are each greatly appreciated. Thank you ALL so much, my friends!
As you can see, our snow has disappeared. For now.
Leaving a wet and muddy background. Not so sweet.
Oh, now that's better! A bit wrinkly, but better.
The real outdoors was hazy and foggy. Cool and damp.
But indoors was warm. And sunny by the window.
Choosing fabrics for the patchwork was the most fun.
Also read as: Shopping for fabrics was THE most FUN!
In keeping with the RPQ style, I quilted along the seam lines, both horizontally and vertically.
The backing is a very recent fabric acquisition. The name and details are in this post.
The binding is Katie Stripe in Midnight by Beauty Queen.
Not black, but it's the best I could do.
It's the only stripe I have!
Gonna have to change that....
A custom personalized label was requested.
For the first time ever, I used the alphabet stitching on my Aunt Elna.
I sewed the loose edge of this triangle label down by hand.
This quilt finished at 48" x 57" and was the 20th use of my 100 labels ordered from

I am so proud of this sweet little finish.
And look forward to making more patchwork quilts in the future!
This quilt is now awaiting the arrival of a sweet baby boy. A 2015 New Year's baby boy!
Thank you so much, Rita!

I would be proud too! This is so absolutely perfect for a new year baby boy. The stripe border is wonderful and that backing....well, I love it....a LOT!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks beautiful! Also thanks for sharing the triangle label idea. It looks great! My labels are on the way :) Thanks for sharing that company here.
ReplyDeleteLove it! You did a great job and I love all the fabrics you chose. Patchwork is such a classic look!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt came out wonderful! I love the colors & prints.
ReplyDeleteTurned out pretty! Great backing and binding too!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so great Lorna even if the background is wet and muddy it is so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI admit following Rita's blog I bought some black and white stripe for binding just like hers. I have been collecting a mix like this to make into patch quilts for our local charity but I know I won't want to give it away once I make it. :) Oh and the back fabric is super cute.
looks great - a nice simple look, crisp and fresh!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I really like this one!
ReplyDeleteI love a simple patchwork quilt and this one is so sweet. You always pick great fabric. Debbie
ReplyDeleteLove everything about this Lorna. Rita would be proud ; )
ReplyDeleteThe quilt turned out beautifully, Lorna, and I hope the new baby and family get lots of love out of it! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, Lorna! This quilt is so much fun. I can see why choosing/shopping was so enjoyable. I think my favorite fabric is the cute little snail. And I love the personalized corner label.
ReplyDeleteLorna, this is the best. Love the backing fabric. Your work is so crisp, clean and precise. It inspires me.
ReplyDeleteYou got to do so much fun shopping for this quilt and how awesome that Rita recommended you to make the quilt and you totally deserve it, you did a fantastic job of lining everything up and picking out some terrific fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is as sweet as any little baby. You have done good my friend, done good. I know something like that looks deceptively easy....I mean it's just squares of fabric right? *GASP* ......JUST squares of fabric.......I know but it's how you put them together that makes it work, and it is harder than it looks. You have really created a lovely quilt and here's to many more commissions in your future, you deserve all the success and more. Here's to a Merry Christmas and a Great 2015!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous little quilt! Love the scrappiness.
ReplyDeleteRed Pepper Quilts is the first thing I thought of when I opened this link from Crazy Mom Quilts. In fact, I double checked the URL to make sure I didn't somehow end up there - that's how close to her style you got, and that is a huge compliment, because she makes some awesome quilts. Great job.
ReplyDeleteBravo!! What a wonderful finish! You should be proud.
ReplyDeleteIt's darling! And I love the photography!
ReplyDeleteStriped binding for the win! There are so many cute details on that quilt. And I love the backing. My 4-year-old is currently really excited about ampersands. I keep having to write them (lightly) for him while he's writing so he can trace since he can't make an ampersand on his own.
ReplyDeleteThe simple quilting is perfect, Lorna. Great finish.
ReplyDeleteLooks really lovely, and very fresh! Nice finish :D
ReplyDeleteIt is just wonderful, I love it!
ReplyDeleteCute quilt!! The baby is going to love cuddling under it. I thought the outdoor photos were very nice too :)

Lorna, what a lovely quilt! You did capture RPQ style and I love your decisions: fabrics, quilting, backing, and especially the striped binding. Great labels - both of them. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI saw this quilt on Flickr earlier today, and immediately noticed the RPQ flavor! How fun to learn the story behind it! You have certainly done a splendid job of it! Such a darling quilt!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic looking quilt! A lucky little boy!
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it! Great job Lorna ... I'd love to be able to do a "Rita" quilt one day!
ReplyDeleteI don't leave comments on blogs
ReplyDeletebut I couldn't let this go by
without telling you, Lorna take a bow,
you did a fabulous job with this quilt.
Merry Christmas to you and yours
and may 2015 be a healthy and quilty one.
