Yes! It's time to celebrate!
The Blogger's Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative Side has begun! Please do make time to visit the festival throughout the coming weeks. There are always so many inspiring entries. Beautiful quilts. Wonderful quilting. And gorgeous photos!
Have your say and vote for your favourite quilts!
My first entry this year is in the Small Quilts category. You can see my second entry here.
Made from Kona Sunset charm packs and yardage, this quilt features two little fox kits under a leafy tree. This sketch of mine was the inspiration for the Kona Fox Kits quilt.
Foxes seem to be quite trendy and I once read they are the 'new owl' in quilting.
This quilt measures 44" x 48" and was made entirely from Kona cotton solids.
Choosing the size of quilt to make was the most difficult decision in creating this design.
Choosing the size of quilt to make was the most difficult decision in creating this design.
Two Sunset charm packs and additional blue yardage were used to make the leaves and background of this quilt. Earth was used to make the tree and its branches.
Kumquat and Papaya, Black and Snow were used to make the fox kits. I wanted to keep the applique to a minimum, so this design is entirely piecework except for the facial features.
Charm packs allowed for a wonderful variation of shades for both the leaves and the background.
The backing and binding make use of the remaining yardage.
For both the top and bobbin, I quilted using three different varieties of variegated Fantastico threads by Superior Threads.
Size: Quilt finishes at 44" x 48"
Designed: by me, Lorna McMahon
Pieced and Quilted: on my little Janome
Fabrics: Kona cotton solids
Threads: Fantastico by Superior Threads
