This is my first time participating in the A Lovely Year of Finishes.

Since it is my first time, I am going to keep it simple, and only set one goal....
To finish my Oh My, Scrappy Stars! quilt top and get it quilted on my tiny Janome!
This was the last photograph taken of my progress...
And although I have doubled that, it is too windy to take it outside for a picture today.
It will have to wait for another blog post later this week!

DeleteLorna, it's really beautiful and I can't wait to see more of it! I think a simple grid quilting or a stipple would look great! Both of those would blend into the background and allow the pattern of the quilt to take center stage. OR, you could stipple the quilt, but leave the stars open, with maybe an echo quilting line in each one. That would look neat too! However you decide to do it, I'm sure it will look fabulous!

I do agree that the background and the stars need to be quilted each
in it's own distinct way. And outline quilting inside the stars -
that's what I was leaning toward. I am not a very confident free
motion quilter, so meandering is not in my comfort zone - yet.
But I will soon have to figure this out and make a decision....
Patience! I have a tiny Janome too and she's a trooper, but it really takes patience to deal with all the extra weight of a large piece. I always love an echo on the back of the quilt so I would say echo the stars :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an appropriate answer, Susan! I told myself, out loud, when I started this project that it would be a lesson in patience. And that was just the piecing!
DeleteGood point about the back of the quilt. An echo is the way to go for the stars!
Oh,oh! Now you've got me wondering.... My next question is what am I going to use for the back???? Lol!
I think a simple grid would be nice running along the star sections.

DeleteVery pretty indeed, I would quilt overall in swirls or spirals because I am in love with them. the colors are divine.

DeleteI would outline quilt the stars and then swirls in between the stars.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the stars and background should be quilted each in their own distinct way. Yes, outlining the stars will have to be done! But I don't feel confident about doing swirls, yet. Thanks for your input! And hope you will be back to see the big finish!

DeleteYour blocks are looking great! I'm not much good on the actual quilting part so would probably go something simple like straight diagonal lines! Not much help, I know! :)

Everytime I see this, I love it more and more. And I definitely think you should keep the quilting simple. I like the idea of the grid mentioned above.
