Now that I know this beauty made it's way from Canada to Australia safely, I am so excited to share this quilt, finally finished. This was really HARD to give away.
The DontBeADickQuilt was made with LOVE and entirely from stash.
I have never been drawn to using purples much, in all of my previous quilting projects. But when I had decided on an approximate size for this quilt, I went digging for background and backing options. And I found Purple Heaven.
Selections for the piecing of the Fox Napping, on the reverse side of this quilt, began with Tula Pink. All the other fabrics were chosen based on her Fox Nap in Mint print pallet and that is how the Michael Miller minty Dumb Dot in Lagoon got sucked in for making the ears and face markings on the fox, as well as for the binding.
The Dear Stella grey dot was used for the background piecing the Fox Napping on the back of the quilt, as well as for the piecing of all the rows of dicks on the front of the quilt. The Lotta Jansdotter - Follie print ties in the grey from the Dear Stella to the purple from the Tula Pink. And there you have it. What a gorgeous FFF 3sum! You will notice how I didn't make any mention of Michael Miller? Hee hee
And speaking of binding.... Did your eye catch that little fleck effect???
That is an official #mollisparklesapproved Glitterati special edition. The recipient of this quilt, Molli Sparkles, developed this Glitter Flecked Binding method which you can read about here. Did I happen to mention that link includes a full frontal of Molli Sparkles dontbeaDICKquilt?
Molli Sparkles developed this block design. And when we decided to do a quilty exchange, I knew I wanted to make him and his partner Adam a very special gift. I have been following Molli Sparkles on his quilting/blogging/life journey for many years now. Stop that right now! It's not called stalking if the person doesn't know you are doing it. So anyways.... Molli and Adam have recently been facing a few health hurdles. To see the love and support they have for each other, warms my heart!!! And then whammo. Molli loses his brother in a tragic accident. Bam
Really don't be a dick about this quilt!!!!!
This quilt isn't about DICK. Penis. Genitalia. Body parts. It is about LOVE.
The fact that I love me a big dick quilt is secondary.
Speaking of dicks, I really am all about support and inclusivity. So I decided to add my own dick to the line up. I mean seriously. Since I am putting my nuts on the line by even posting about this unusual quilt.
That being said, those who know me, know that I am someone you can count on to be more than willing to take one for the team so, here goes!
I am putting my putting my balls on the line to make a point.
Don't discriminate - add pink to your rainbow!!! LOL!!!
Modified strap on block developed. Strap on a pair. Includes 3D matching ties and XL SIZE. Those of you with a seasoned eye will have already noticed, this row has bigger blocks. When it comes to dildos, if you are going to go with a store bought model, whether it be for your partner or personal use, I think you really aught to get the biggest bang for your buck.
Speaking of BUCKS... Mmmmmm
I decided to flank my pretty pink penis with some other modified blocks. See I told you. I truly am all about inclusivity.
Now a little more about this Don'tBeADickQuilt pattern. The blocks finish at 12" wide by 18" tall. The pattern includes instructions for both versions - circumsized and uncircumsized. Please don't be fooled into thinking that the uncircumsized blocks are going to be easier or quicker to make... Ironically there is more trimming involved with the untrimmed dicks when you convert them to a fabric based medium.
You can find the pattern here.
Please. Be careful when clipping threads. We don't want any accidental circumcisions.
The "#DontBeADickQuilt" quilt finished at 81" x 86"
Now... It's your turn for Show and Tell!!!
What have you been working on?
Happy Birthday Lorna! Love the quilt btw!
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt! I have Molly’s pattern for this block and your quilt makes me want to pull it out.
ReplyDeleteLOL I think I just died of laughter reading this!! I already knew of Molly's pattern but your strap on idea was simply divine!!!!! Happy birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Lorna!
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt, Lorna. The world is a better place because you are in it. Happy Birthday,🎂
ReplyDeleteHa! I so love this pattern! I subscribe to Molli's blog and have the pattern. I just love the in-your-face daring of it and the myriad messages it sends, from humorous to political. I'm just waiting for a reason to make my own. And I love your strap-on adaptation - just stellar! Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Lorna! This post put some much-needed sparkle (double entendre intended) in my day today. I am so very happy to see all the inclusivity in this show-stopper of a quilt gift. Good for you and Jeff, aka Molli Sparkles, to shake up the quilting world, and be political. I thought it genius to add the strap-on pink dick in the centre, as I have a few gay friends who I dearly love, and I'm happy to see them represented here too. Thank you. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove this! Cheering on your bravery in putting this out there and making it fun!
