With only two weeks left in the year....
I am scrambling to finish up the two Canada 150 quilts designed for the upcoming 150th Anniversary of Canada. The Sesquicentennial anniversary.
So out into the cold Canadian outdoors I go!
The fabrics I chose for this quilt were mostly from the Ambiance and Artisan Spirit collections from Northcott Fabrics. A good choice, I think... quality cotton fabrics from a Canadian manufacturer for a Canadian quilt.
When it came time for quilting, I wanted to change things up from my usual organic wavy lines. I quilted mountains in the "north" of this baby quilt. And watery waves in the "south".
I chose a bright red for the lettering and numbers.....
And the same for the binding, blending well with those Maple Leaves in the backing.
For the quilting, I used Light Grey Omni from Superior Threads, both on top and in the bobbin. The grey blends in well with all of the different colours of fabrics used in the front - and with the backing that is Stonehenge OH, CANADA also by Northcott Fabrics.
The Canada 150 design is available in two sizes.
Directions are included for the 40" x 50" baby quilt size
AND for a 66" x 66" lap quilt size.

The most of the individual blocks have also been listed separately, including the Big Bear without words. You can check out all the details for this pattern in my shop here.
This is so beautiful! Love how you quilted this quilt - that extra touch in each section. Looking forward to making this in the new year! Merry Christmas to you and your family, Lorna!!
ReplyDeleteThese are so wonderful Lorna! The state of Nebraska turns 150 also and I have only a few weeks to participate in a mini quit challenge for it. I have tossed out so many ideas and so now I have nothing. You did such a wonderful job on these!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute finish, I really like how you used different quilting motifs in each part of the quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt came out wonderful! Congratulations on the finish!

Awesome both in the piecing and the quilting. I love how you treated different sections uniquely in the quilting style. Your color choices are exquisite and your backing delightful, even down to the detail of using all Canadian fabric. You deserve to be very, very proud of this one!
ReplyDeleteJust wonderful, as usual. I am in awe of your designing talents - and your quilting too of course.
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful quilt. I love that backing fabric. Happy holidays to you & your family.

ReplyDeleteHi Lorna, that's a great quilt for a baby born in 2017 or even as a child's cuddle quilt. Thanks so much for linking up to Celebrate-FĂȘtons 150!
