If you know me at all....
You know I am a busy, busy bee.
I have been especially busy this past week, with a show and workshops in both London and Orangeville. Tomorrow I'll be in Walkerton for a show and again the next day up in Orillia. Before I left last week, and again today, I've enjoyed being able to spend a little sewing time working on these Bee Blocks!
This type of piecing is not normal for me. I don't usually sew without a plan already laid out. And I don't do improv. But it's a nice and relaxing method of piecing. I am keeping my charm squares whole and am piecing in a wonky slab block style.
This charm looks like it could be placed on any angle, but I love seeing the Ontario with the maple leaf dotting the "i". This fall I have been running around all over Ontario!
To recap just what this BEE is all about:
In commemoration of Canada's upcoming 150th anniversary in 2017, Sew Fresh Quilts will be hosting a quilt bee. This SEW FRESH QUILT BEE will be our way of taking part in "Canada's Big Quilt Bee". Our quilt blocks will be made into quilts for donation to the Ronald McDonald House charity.
For more details on the Canadian Quilter's Association Canada-wide Quilting Bee click here. As participants, our hive we will be helping to contribute blocks towards their goal of trying to make 1000 quilts for kids at Ronald McDonald Houses of Canada. I am partnering with Rita of Fabric Please! for this very worthwhile cause.
To participate in this online Quilting Bee, we will be making slab blocks. As a shop sponsor, Rita will be supplying me with the fabric required to make the slab blocks in return for promoting her store during the Bee. She will be carrying the entire With Glowing Hearts line that is available for purchase here. Charm packs are also available.
Rita tells me this line is selling out fast!!!!
If you are unable to get a hold of some now.... There will be another shipment in January.
The SEW FRESH QUILT BEE will run until May 17, 2017. The deadline for mailing blocks and unfinished tops is May 30th. Mailing information can be found here. You DON'T have to be Canadian to participate. But you do have to be prepared to mail your blocks to this Canadian address.
On the last Monday of each month, I will be posting about my progress and will be providing a continuing linky party where participants will have the opportunity to link up and share their progress, as well. You can join in the linky party each time you have made blocks. You can link up from a blog post, Flickr photo, or Instagram post. That gives you seven opportunities to join in the PARTY!
Prizes include 3 separate $25 Gift Certificates....
And a Grand Prize including a 6 piece fat quarter bundle of black and white prints, a spool of Aurifil thread and this Chopstix pattern by Jen Houlden of Quilts by Jen.
You can be sure I will also BEE adding a few extra prize offerings of my own along the way to sweeten things up!
Are you joining me for the Sew Fresh Quilt Bee?!!!
I'm happy to have you join the hive!
Are you prepared? Do you have your Canada fabric and scraps ready?
If you would like to participate,
PLEASE BEE A HONEY
and put the Sew Fresh Quilt Bee button on your blog!
Your bee blocks look great!!
ReplyDeleteI love that you left the charms whole! It really shows off the fabric. Thanks so much, Lorna! I look forward to seeing everyone's progress over the next months. Safe travels!
ReplyDeletePretty bee block ♥
ReplyDeleteGreat slabs! I really like how you left the charm square whole, it really ties all of the blocks together.
ReplyDeleteI am ready! I received my fabric last week and also mailed a few bits to Kate in the UK for her to participate. I like what you have done so far. I need to pull out my scrap bins and get organized. I am wondering what colors will pull in the best. I have the gray with small red maple leaves and that text print that you highlighted. Thanks for hosting this - it will be a nice way to support Ronald McDonald House.
ReplyDeleteHi BKringle! I am so glad to hear that you are joining in! How sweet of you to send some of the fabric to Kate so she can join in the Bee. This is going to be so much fun!!!
