Farm Friends

This quilt is really near and dear to my heart. In addition to the Forest Friends and the Jungle Friends designs, of course, it was only fitting that I would eventually come up a design that truly reflects my rural setting. Meet Farm Friends!

Along with the Flowers quilt that I showed you last week, this farm fresh finish was quilted and was included in that same photo shoot on the "new" old hay wagon.

The photo shoot was a real testament to how much these farm animal quilt blocks must resemble the actual farm animals they represent. For as soon as I hoisted this quilt up on the side of the wagon, the flies came over and landed ALL over the place!

Here is the Goat and his two flies....

Here we have the Horse and the Duck with a fly by his eye....

And here is the Pig, perfectly clean and pretty in pink - but still attracting a fly.

Amazingly there are no flies on the Sheep.

But there is one close by the Cow.

I don't know how I managed to take this photo without a single fly. It must have been the wind. Either that or each of the flies has managed to find a way into the house by now. No doubt.

This close up of the quilting from the front shows the Superior Threads' So Fine! in a #30 weight, the name of the colour is In The Buff, that I chose to blend in with the background. I used a dark brown Guetermann polyester thread in the bobbin, to blend in with the backing. This is a wide backing fabric from Northcott Fabric's Artisan Spirit Shimmer collection, and is the same backing I used on the big MOD Bear Paw quilt.

The Farm Friends design is available in two sizes. Directions are also included for a baby size setting that finishes at 40" x 45". And there are two additional designs giving instructions for a Horses only or Cows only setting, as well. You can check out all the details for this pattern in my shop here.

The "Farm Friends" quilt finished at 83" x 88"
and was the 13th use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

  13. Such a great quilt finish! I love the collection of animals. You have a great talent for picking the perfect fabrics that provide texture and background without competing with the design of the quilt.
