Sorry to say...
I still don't have any "real" works in progress to show you this week.
But I do have this virtual WIP. It's really outside of my normal range. I have been spending a lot of time working on "one block" designs. But I love trying something new every now and then. I would say this Bear Paw design is very Modernitional.
A while back, I was contacted by Georganna Hawley, who is the guest curator for a quilt exhibit coming to the Ontario (California) Museum of History and Art, titled Modern Quilts: Redesigning Traditions. The exhibit will run from December 1, 2016 through January 22, 2017.
Please click here for more information about the exhibit and how you can enter!
In other news......
Farmers have been known to advise that you should not keep all your eggs in one basket. And I really do agree with that advice. Although I do have an Etsy shop where I can sell patterns, I also opened a PayHip pattern store. But what if your one basket has a hole in it? I think you have to either find a new basket or start putting all your eggs in the one good basket.
I have been getting quite a number of emails lately from people complaining that they are unable to download their pattern purchased from my PayHip pattern shop. Or that they are unable to make a purchase using their credit card without signing up for a PayPal account. I have been replying to these emails and sending the patterns as an attachment when they are unable to download. And I have been directing those wishing to pay by credit card to my Etsy shop where they have been able to successfully make purchases from there.
So, over the next little while, I will be phasing out my PayHip shop and directing those who are interested in purchasing patterns to go to my Etsy shop from now on.
NOW....
It's your turn for Show and Tell!!!
What have you been working on?

Oh that's a shame about your Payhip store ... I had no problems purchasing the black bird pattern from there, sorry to hear others have.
ReplyDeleteI love this Bear Paw!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love this! Another winning design! XO
ReplyDeleteLove the Bear Paw Quilt. I love how the visual picture of the traditional name of the block are both incorporated in the quilt - and then the cute bear paws in the border.
ReplyDeleteThank you for clearing up the PayHip issue. I too had a problem, but eventually did get through, and wondered if it was just 'me':)!
I love the bear Lorna.
ReplyDeleteOh my, once you get this into a hard copy pattern I want it! My son and DIL are bow hunters and would love this quilt!
ReplyDeleteLorna, your bear quilt is gorgeous! Too bad you're having problems with Payhip. So far only my free pattern has been downloaded from Payhip, but there haven't been any issues.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic pattern! Well, I would say that this is progress enough! Although I understand that when the work is done behind the computer instead of the sewing machine, it doesn't really feel like getting much accomplished. This will be amazing once it's made up, but I think I would pull out a lot of hair working on that border!
ReplyDeleteAmazing Bear Paw quilt! I see you have a Northcott ambassador button with some animal pics (patterns I assume) where are these in your shop? or are they available somewhere else? I know someone that would love those raccoon faces.
ReplyDeleteI love the bear paw quilt! I've been wanting to make one, and your version is the most fun and interesting take on the bear paw pattern that I've seen. I'm hoping this quilt will make it to your pattern shop at some point. I'll be sure to pick it up!
ReplyDeleteThat's a genius design Lorna, I love it and really look forward to seeing it made up :) It's really interesting to hear about your Payhip issues. Someone recommended it to me recently as a place to sell downloads that cover the new EU vat laws for you. I don't think Easy do that yet do they? The new laws put a right spanner in my plans to sell patterns and I've completely stalled :(
ReplyDeletelove it - a bear in a bear claw quilt
ReplyDeleteLorna!!! First of all, that new pattern is amazing!!! I am always partial to the Bears Paw, even tho I've never made a whole quilt...it has just always been a fave of both mine and my husband's! I have made 2 bears paw barn quilts tho (they are on my Prairie Patchworks blog) :) Secondly, everywhere I look, there is a new pattern...raccoons, gerbils...your keyboard must be about on fire these days ;) xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever spin on the bear paw, Lorna. And I'm sorry to hear about the Payhip difficulty. I was never really sold on the platform and phased out linking to it and need to go back and remove the last of my content there. I do like Craftsy, but it is a bummer they don't help with the VAT issue.
ReplyDeleteI love your new Bear's Paw! It's gorgeous. Can't wait to see you make this one in fabric. And I'm sorry about your computer troubles. I thought they were supposed to make life easier? :)
ReplyDeleteI love your modern take on a Bears Paw quilt! I hope you'll show us the quilt when you get it done.
ReplyDeletethe bear is adorable but to me he seems a bit overwhelmed by the other blocks. Did you try it with a larger colour contrast. Perhaps the bear paw blocks in a lighter shade?
ReplyDeleteyou have a wonderful imagination and I can;t wait to start sewing the prjoects I bought from your recently.
LOVE your bear paw design! Hope it will be a forthcoming pattern or QAL.
ReplyDeleteAnother great pattern looks like it's on its way from you. Love the bear and the little paw prints in the border.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous Lorna! Interesting to read about Payhip vs Etsy because I was just thinking about them yesterday. My thoughts were how easy it was to download a pattern from your payhip store - interesting that you have been experiencing problems recently though.
ReplyDeleteSorry you are having issues with Payhip. Sounds pretty frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI really love this bear paw pattern. Very creative!
I alway wanted to make a Bear's Paw quilt but I have found a layout I liked until today. I look forward to see more of this one.
ReplyDeleteOh what a pain with Payhip! I guess now that Etsy has the VAT thing worked out we don't really need Payhip anymore. I love the bear quilt! And I am excited for when your Forest Friends 2 pattern comes out.
ReplyDeleteFinally got some time to check out WIP Wednesday - I've missed you Lorna. My cyber friend Lisa got to see you in person recently - I think we need to get you heard to Fredericksburg to our guild sometime soon. Love the modernitional bear!
ReplyDeleteYour Bear Paw quilt design is amazing!!! I love how you've made traditional modern.
ReplyDeleteWow! I adore this bear design, I love how the sashing makes it look like he's prowling through the trees of a dense forest... and the border is so cute! I also love that word, 'modernitional' - a new one on me!
ReplyDeleteYour "modernitional" Bear Paw design is Awesome Lorna! The bear is really well done and posed just perfectly!
ReplyDeleteMay your Etsy egg basket never develope holes!
That is a great pattern.
ReplyDeleteI always liked the bear paw.
Thanks for the opportunity.
