Let's Bee Social #119

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social and thank you so much for making this party such a success!

It warms my heart and makes me smile to see you all participating in this event each week. When I click on your photos and come for a visit, I love seeing that you are BEEing social and have been visiting and leaving kind comments on each other's blog posts.

Everyone needs a little sweet word of encouragement now and then.

Thank you also for all the lovely comments left on the link up posts each week! You sure know how to make me happy!!!

I have some exciting news to share with you today. Actually there are a few newsworthy items!

  • I have been approached by F&W Media and am considering writing and publishing my first quilt book. The proposal is going before the board later this week. I am so excited!
  • Also, it's official. I have now registered with the Canadian Government as a Business. Things are going so well with pattern sales. Thanks to all of you!
  • And one last thing.... I have finally lined up a printer to be able to start offering my patterns in printed form - both for personal use and for distribution. I do have to thank Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs for this. It was through the participation in her Pattern Writing Series that I was prompted to get off my behind and get going.

Last week I blogged about my Black Birds quilt and was hoping to have it finished in time for a post on Friday. This quilt design has generated so much interest! I am astounded. And curious. What is it about that quilt that makes it so appealing? Is it the birds themselves? Is it the colour palette used? Is it the repetitious design? I may not know the answers to these questions, but I am very sure about one thing.... It makes me so grateful to have your love, support and encouragement. What would I do without you, my friends?

NOW....

It's your turn for Show and Tell!!!
What have you been working on?

  8. Lorna, your patterns are outstanding. It was only a matter of time when you'd write the book. I think it is your generosity with which you share your tips, tutorials and skills that makes everything you do magical. Sending you hugs and best wishes for your next endeavor.

  9. Congrats. I know your book will be lovely!! As for the birds, I think it is a combination of all you cite - I remember thinking in the qal that the bird block would be wonderful as a flock quilt, and it is!

  17. Exciting news! Congrats! I've been hoping you'd have printed patterns one day. I work in a quilt store and all your cute patterns would be great to offer customers! Looking forward to seeing some hanging.

  18. Congratulations Lorna on all of your exciting news! I would love to see a book by you. I prefer printed patterns when the shipping cost is reasonable. It's hard to say why a pattern is appealing. Birds are cute, I think, in nature and on quilts. I like that your quilt has just one bird in a different colour. And the layout is appealing but not too busy. In the end, if you like it then chances are good that others will too.

  22. Wahooooo! Lorna! I've always known that you would have this kind of success! Your work makes so many people feel happy and your quilts are the most fun! Congratulations my friend!
The pattern writing series was a big help and will become a quilt blogger's classic. I'm so glad you were a part of it!
It's hard to pinpoint what it is about the little birds. Their shape is adorable and the whole design makes me smile. I love how one stands out in the crowd! Maybe that is symbolic to a lot of people?

  23. I a not sure why this particular pattern attracts me so much. The birds are so cute and sassy. Love the pop of color and the distribution of the birds. It is aesthetically pleasing to me. I loved the little red birds in the Elephant Parade quilt. I think the visual joke of the different colored bird grabs the attention.

  26. Congrats, Lorna! You are really going places! About your blackbird quilts, I know what the appeal is for me: it's the repetition along with that little sparkle of color in the single bird. That can mean so many things, but it's just fun, too.

  31. So awesome about the book. Your patterns sell themselves - they are fabulous. And while I'm happy that you are a business, of course that means more taxes...oh well. Congrats on all your successes. I'm sorry I haven't been participating lately - just too busy with other projects to be able to sew. I'll try to get one up tonight, though. You rock!

  40. I'm so happy for you Lorna, y ou have worked hard for this and it has paid off. Mom use to say, birds of a feather flock together , but there is always one that stands out in the crowd. It's the red bird that finishes the quilt for me.
