Little Blooms {in Kona} Redo - a finish

99 is a pretty big number. But it looks like it was well worth all the hard work.

I shared a few posts previously here, here and here, updating my progress on the making of these blocks of scrappy Kona Cotton goodness. 99 bottles of beer on the wall. 99 bottles of beer....

Truthfully, I was getting kind of worried that the blocks would not look as nice in rows and columns as they did in a big ol' mixed up pile. Once I got them all together I started second guessing myself. Wondering if I should not have gone so scrappy.

But in the end....
I absolutely love it!

I chose my last piece of Widescreen Crosshatch in Grey by Caroline Friedlander for Robert Kaufman Fabrics for the backing. The binding is Scribbles in Black by Ed Emberley for Cloud 9 Fabrics. I got the last yard available from Mad About Patchwork. And ordered more of the Widescreen, too. My happy mail was delivered on Thursday at 1:00.

I used the "Rita of Red Pepper Quilts" binding method, once again. This time I was going to try glue basting to keep the binding folded over to the back, but it was too messy. I opted to pin as I went along instead. And am super pleased with the results this time! The width of the binding was much more even along the back and so was the stitching.

These blocks remind me of a brightly filled in colouring book. And that's why I chose the Scribbles for the binding. The black really makes those Konas pop. And it also helps make the transition to that soft grey backing fabric.

Getting pretty predictable here. Surprise! Organic wavy line quilting. Again. I was going to straight line quilt along the seam lines. And did do one and a half passes. But ripped it out. And proceeded to simply enjoy myself and the process. However, there is a surprise. I quilted vertically instead of my usual horizontal edge to edge this time!

This quilt was much too large to fit on the side of that old hay wagon. So I rounded up the kids. And the cat. And the dog. And we went out into the front yard for the photo shoot. The sun was bright, the grass was green, and the sky was true blue and filled with fluffy white clouds.

Now this finish was completed on Thursday late in the afternoon. And these photos were taken immediately afterward. No. I didn't take the time to use the lint brush first....

This Little Blooms quilt was the 44th use of my 100 labels ordered from Ikaprint.
