This little quilt makes me so happy! It was sure pretty quick to put together. Once I figured out how to piece those little bee blocks that is. I used my EQ7 program to work on this design and am so pleased with how much it looks like the EQ7 image. You can read more about that in this post. That's what I love about using the program. You can colour in your design using the fabric swatches of the prints you would like to use before even beginning to cut into that precious stash!
The Bear and Bees finished at approximately 36" x 40" and is NOT paper pieced. In my opinion it is a gender neutral quilt and the perfect size for a new little baby. Maybe it leans a little more toward being a boyish quilt.... But. What am I most proud of? That this is my first finish using "prints only" in I don't know how long!
The green grass is 63 Kiwi from the Juice collection by Ginger Lily Studio for African Sky. The backing is Theodore the Bear, also from the Theodore & Izzy collection and the binding is Black Gingham from the Country Touch collection by Daphne B. for Wilmington Prints.
Those cute bears in the backing are simply adorable. And so are the bees. This backing fabric was my inspiration for the Bear and Bees design. The Black Gingham sure makes for a smart looking binding. But it causes your eyes go all bugged out when you are looking at it off the bolt. Working with the strips once they were cut was much easier to take! I used the Rita of Red Pepper Quilts binding method again. And am pretty happy with how it turned out.
Here you can see that I used the organic wavy line quilting, so I could make my way around those appliqued letters on the honey pot. I just used plain white Gütermann thread for the whole works. Except the black applique on the HONEY.
The Bear and Bees quilt was the 45th use of my 100 labels ordered from Ikaprint.

ReplyDeleteThat is adorable! You've got me thinking about black gingham I really like the look for the binding but would never have considered it, thanks.
ReplyDeleteFantastic, love it was the backing fabric that prompted the front! I'm always amazed EQ7 designs look so like the finished item so many times! Congrats on another gorgeous finish
ReplyDeleteAnother awesomely, cute quilt. Thanks so much for sharing all the information with us.
ReplyDeleteI really like the gingham binding, Lorna! What a fantastic finish, and I agree that it is very sweet and gender neutral. :)
ReplyDeleteLorna, your quilt is as cute as can be. I love that backing!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute quilt
ReplyDeleteLast week, I was in a (boring) meeting, doodling a pattern for a baby boy friend of mine. I was trying to merge together some ideas I found on the net. She likes "cutie" things but I also wanted a modern look. And then, it hit me in the face: this site from that girl in Ontario is exactly what you are looking for. So I send to her the link to your pattern gallery, and ask her to choose something (I suggest Foxes & friends). She replied to me: "how do I choose, I love everything. You know me so well". So she finally decide on the "foxes & friends". So now I have a pattern to buy (first time I buy a pattern online) and a project for my summer holidays. So thanks for the design.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt! You did a fabulous job with every step. Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful creative day!
ReplyDeleteGreat bear quitl!

ReplyDeleteOh it's turned out so well! It does look just like your drawing and it's beautiful! What a treat for a little one :)
ReplyDeleteYour bear is just so cute and the binding is the perfect choice.
ReplyDeleteIt's another winner, Lorna! I especially love the backing fabric - it's just too adorable. But I love all the prints, really, I'm so impressed with your using a computer - I keep trying but I always go back to the darn pencil and paper - I think I'm technologically challenged...Anyway, your creativity knows no bounds, girl.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I really like the way this turned out Lorna! :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! What a great design :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is super cute! I especially love the texture the print gives the bear fur.
ReplyDeleteThis is just adorable!
ReplyDeleteYou make the most adorable quilts, Lorna. :D I'm so in love with this fun guy. Absolutely gender neutral - I first thought it'd be a perfect quilt for a niece. That backing fabric is precious.
ReplyDeleteIt's ADORABLE Lorna! And it is gender neutral! Bravo!
