Country Lanes - Irish Chain

For the most part, my work tends to be bright.  And loud.
But this Country Lanes baby quilt is a delightful whisper from the past.

While preparing for my new series, Top 10 Tips for New Quilters, I needed to practice some quick and easy piecing methods to provide pictures for the posts.  And figured I might as well use those pieces to make a quilt.

The simple palette of blue and white, coupled with a traditional Irish Chain design, gives this quilt a vintage feel.  It's subtle and dainty.  And refreshing.

And just the right size for basting at my kitchen table.

Russell, and Teddy, came along for an outdoor photo shoot on the old hay wagon.

The sun was sunny and the wind was windy.  But behaved long enough to get a few good shots of this simple quilt.  Using 7.5" finished blocks, the Country Lanes baby quilt finished 37" x 52".

Keeping it simple, I quilted Country Lanes using an extended zig-zag stitch.  Also known as Honey Comb quilting, this stitch was a "must have" feature I looked for when shopping for a new machine at the beginning of this year.  Aunt Elna, as I affectionately call her, allows a maximum stitch width of 7.0 for this extended zig-zag pattern.  I lengthened the stitches to 3.0 and quilted along and between each seam line from top to bottom.

This project was the 12th use of my 100 labels ordered from MyOwnQuiltLabels.
And this precious patchwork is now listed along with the other Quilts for Sale in my Etsy shop.....
