Pretty Posy FREE Quilt Block Tutorial

Hello all you quilty people!

Welcome to the Pretty Posy quilt block tutorial! This simple 9 patch block finishes at 9" square and can be used to make quilts of various sizes.  For my sample, I used 4 blocks made from Kona cotton solids, to make this cute mini quilt.

Sew - Let's get started!!!

Pretty Posy Block Fabric Requirements

(1) - 3.5" square for the Flower Center (I used Kona Cloud)
(4) - 1.5" squares in the colour of the Flower Petals (I used Kona Wisteria, Bluejay, Peacock, and Petunia)

(4) - 3.5" squares for the Flower Petals (I used Kona Wisteria, Bluejay, Peacock, and Petunia)

(2) - 4" squares for the Dark Green side of the leaves (I used Kona Kiwi and Sour Apple)
(2) - 4" squares for the Light Green side of the leaves (I used Kona Honeydew and Pear)

(16) - 1.5" squares in the Background colour (I used Kona Snow)

Pretty Posy Block Assembly Instructions

Step 1
Take the (4) - 1.5" squares in the colour of the Flower Petals and the (1) - 3.5" square for the Flower Center.  Place each 1.5" square on the corners of the Flower Center and sew a seam, shown in red, diagonally across each of the 1.5” squares. Trim the corners, allowing for ¼” seam. Press seams.

Step 2
Take your (4) - 3.5" Petal squares and (8) of the 1.5" Background squares. For each of the Petal squares, place (2) of the 1.5" square on two adjacent corners of each Petal square and sew a seam, shown in red, diagonally across each of the 1.5” squares. Trim the corners, allowing for ¼” seam. Press seams.

Step 3
Take your (2) - 4" Dark Green squares and (2) 4" Light Green squares.  Place each Light Green square onto each Dark Green square.  Draw a diagonal line, shown in black, and sew ¼” from the line, on each side of it, as shown in red. Cut along the diagonal line you drew. Press both the half square triangles open and trim them to 3.5” square.

Step 4
Take your (4) completed Leaf squares and (8) of the 1.5" Background squares. For each of the Leaf squares, place (2) of the 1.5" square on two opposite corners and sew a seam, shown in red, diagonally across each of the 1.5” squares. Trim the corners, allowing for ¼” seam. Press seams.

Step 5
Arrange the 9 patches as shown.  Sew the pieces into rows and sew the rows together to make the block.

The Pretty Posy blocks make a cute mini quilt....

But here are two possible layouts to show how they would look in a full size quilt.
