This post is dedicated to inspiration.
Back during the first week of April....
I was inspired by the finished Kansas Dugout quilt made by Rita of Red Pepper Quilts.
And I jumped on the Kansas Dugout block band wagon.
You can read that first post here.
As of last Thursday, the quilt top was finished and measured 44" square.
Normally, I make baby quilts that are narrow enough to allow for a backing without seams.
This one would need to be pieced.
I love the challenge of trying new things!
Inspiration for this matched seam was found with Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts.
This honey comb quilting, using an extended zig zag stitch, provides a fun finish.
The honey comb quilting was also inspired by Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts.
A flanged binding adds a special touch and provides a little punch.
This method is perfect for anyone learning to do binding by machine.
Inspiration for the flanged binding was from Aunt Marti of 52 Quilts.
You don't always have to go searching for inspiration.
Sometimes it comes knocking on your door.
Fruity O's finished and is now for sale in my Etsy shop here!
Thanks to Jessica of The Sterling Thimble who inspired me to name this quilt Fruity O's.
I shared the finished top in my tutorial for the Kansas Dugout block and Y Seams here.
Jessica's comment on that post read,
"Great tutorial! I love the animal print. My son loves the "fruity Os". :)"

ReplyDeleteI truly run out of things to say about your quilts. This is so beautiful. The quilting is perfect for this quilt. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove you pieced back. Such a great job.
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt and a great backing with beautifully quilted. Inspiration is everywhere and sometimes think there is too much as it leaves less time to "do" rather than just look if you know what i mean, I get so much from blogs, have pages of notes linking me back to things I want to try but when oh when will i have the time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt. The backing matches - oh my!! The quilting pushes this one over the top. Another great finish. Yep lots of inspiration right here, thanks!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fabulous! The pattern, the fabrics, the quilting, the backing, the binding, OH MY! I find inspiration through all sorts of venues, your blog, other blogs, pinterest, friends, quilt groups, just walking or driving down the street sometimes; it's all around us if we just look and some of us need inspiration more than others. lol Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLona, this quilt is awesome! Love the angled 'corners!' AND the quilting!! I agree, the inspiration from all of the quilty bloggers (including YOU) is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteYou pieced the backing so superbly, I had a hard time finding the seam! And I like the honeycomb quilting. Was that hard to keep lined up?
ReplyDeleteSome baby will love it!
Super cute! And thanks for the link to the magic binding. It's the icing on the cake!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that just the cutest little quilt! Love how you quilted it too :-)
ReplyDeleteI love it! The quilting is a perfect fit and those corners add a nice touch!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is ADORABLE. What a cute pattern for a child's quilt. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful finish Lorna, and the name is perfect for the quilt! I really love that quilting too, does your machine do that - or did you have to carefully manuver the quilt for it?
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet quilt, and fabulously done! Congrats on a wonderful finish!!
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing finish. I love everything about it. Especially the cute fruity and animal fabrics.
ReplyDeleteFruity-O's is a great name and a fun quilt. I haven't made that block before and will check out the tutorial. Thanks for being an inspiration yourself!
ReplyDeleteNice! It looks so pro with those corners :-) I like the quilting a lot too. Well done!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Lorna. I wish my machine did that
ReplyDeleteSo adorable! And good for you for having such perceptive antennae looking for inspiration but making it your own! Love it!
ReplyDeleteFor starters,I find inspiration from you,as well as numerous other bloggers/quilters. Inspiration is everywhere, all a person has to do is look. You might be amazed where you find it. This quilt is so adorable, congratulations on another wonderful finish!
ReplyDeleteSuch an adorable quilt! How did you ever manage to match the backing so exactly?!! The quilting is so awesome too! A perfect quilt, Lorna! You inspire me all the time!

Love your Fruity O quilt, Lorna!!! Inspiration is all around, as well as online.
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful quilt from a wonderful lady ! Happy and bright!
ReplyDeleteWow! You matched that up perfect. Love the quilting and it is so adorable.
ReplyDeleteI am finding inspiration all over the place. I actually have a post waiting to be finished in my blog post role about inspiration too. I like your method of sampling from lots of different people and bringing those samples to your own work. I love how we branch out and try something that we wouldn't have otherwise done. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteYour post is so aptly named. I am so inspired by that impeccably matched seam. That wide zigzag is a great overall quilt pattern. I need to try that as well! Love the cute 45 degree corners, too. Dang, I think I just love the whole darn thing!!!
ReplyDeleteI adore this quilt, it speaks to my inner child. I can't believe the amazing job you did matching the seams on the backing. It might look simple to a non-quilter, but we know how much time and patience that took.
ReplyDeleteThat is an impressive matched seam.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful quilt! I have never seen such a perfectly matched seam on a backing. Your choice of having the quilt have cutoff corners just gives it that extra special touch!
