I think it looks really cool. Hopefully this time you will see it through instead of stashing it away again -- it's way too pretty to be left for dead on the top shelf! Like you, I used to be strict about seeing a quilt through from beginning to end without any side projects, but then I started my first hand stitched applique project, a BOM on Erin Russek's blog over a year ago. Once I had all of my pieced and appliqued blocks finished, so many other people had posted their finished quilt pictures to the Flickr group... I just couldn't bear to have mine be just like everyone else's. So I started thinking about different things I could do with the setting to make my quilt "my own," and decided that I wanted to set my large center medallion straight instead of on point and fill the space between the medallion and the on point border blocks with smaller pieced borders. And that stalled me out, because how on Earth was I going to know how big to make each of those borders and be sure that my finished border of large pieced and appliqued blocks was going to fit perfectly??? So I set it aside, and started playing with some bear paw blocks. Decided I wanted to alternate them with floating smaller sawtooth stars, fought to get the points perfect on the little stars, and then discovered that the hand dyed marble fabric I used for my star was a bleeder! :-( So I set it aside, and started working on a California King sized paper pieced pineapple quilt -- I have half of the blocks done for that one. And some time after setting aside the appliqued BOM blocks I started working on my own design for needle turned applique, well, a design that I Frankensteined together from a few published designs and then added and subtracted a few details... I got overwhelmed about a month or two ago when I realized that I had so many overwhelming projects in progress at once, so I started a "quick and easy" baby quilt for no baby in particular. This was supposed to recharge my mojo by giving me a FINISH -- but once I got the top together and put it on my design wall, I've kind of felt "meh" about it. Because it was quick and easy, it's not all that exciting -- so it languishes for want of borders and quilting. I have to keep reminding myself sometimes that this is a HOBBY and it is supposed to be FUN -- when I start stressing out about how long I have been working on something and whether or not my quilts are getting finished as fast as those of other bloggers, it feels like it's a job! And who needs THAT?!Rebecca Gracehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14801489818836195754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6222010192421604268.post-47746603657435124202015-09-17T12:44:55.020-04:002015-09-17T12:44:55.020-04:00Oh wow! Yes, I have plenty of "up there" boxes, between being a cyclical worker and having about 20 years of occasional purchases but no sewing time. I'm so glad I have a different rhythm that works now!
