Scottie Dog - a free quilt pattern!

The Scottie Dog free pdf pattern is my way of thanking all of my friends, old and new, for joining me and following me on my quilting journey. This past year has been of epic proportions for me, both as a quilter and as a person just trying to live the life. I could not have made it without you! And I truly appreciate your continued support and encouragement!

This quilt was begun in my old life. The top was completed. And now that I am back in the quilting saddle again since my move to a new home, this Scottie Dog quilt is finished!

There are so many options of how to make these little dogs. I went with a scrappy look. And wanted one of my dogs to be wearing a bow.

It had been quite some time since I used a flanged binding, but this quilt just felt like it need that little extra zing. You can find my complete list of Binding Tutorials here

Last year at Quilt Market in Houston, I met Becky while I was there and she asked me to be a guest designer for December at International Association of Quilters.  What is the IAQ????

What other quilts did I make using this sweet Daisy Days (by Keera Job for Riley Blake) fabric fat quarter bundle?

The bundle was first cut into to make the the Smitten Kitten last October.

Then I made the Scottie Dogs which was the last thing I worked on before moving.

The fabrics for the Hedgehog spikes were made with some of the remaining scraps.

The "Scottie Dog" quilt finished at 38" x 50"
and was the 6th use of my 3rd edition of 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

You can find the finished quilt listed for sale here in my Etsy Shop.

Let's Bee Social #251

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

These past few weeks have been flying by. It seems like it was only just yesterday that I prepared the 250th Let's Bee Social post. Yes. 250 posts. That is 250 divided by 52 weeks in a year equals 4.80 years of weekly partying!!!!

So.... It took me a while to settle in at my new home.

Things are very different. But they are very, very good and....

I am having SEW much fun!

Christmas is coming. And I felt it. Now I am. Sewing while it's SNOWING!

I wanted to do some therapeutic sewing. I needed to do some therapeutic sewing.

So I went digging through my stash for some happy pairings intending to make a couple more of The Zipper Quilt quilts. But I wanted to make the best use of the fabrics I found. And then I also decided I wanted to make cute little toddler pillowcases to match the quilts. And then I  also also decided to make the quilts to match the pillowcase in design and just KISS this project.

(My thought process may not be simple, but in the end I wanted to make sure my sewing was)

From my stash, I came up with two combinations that I was happy with. The blue and olive green combo with the little cute bird print from Michael Miller Fabrics, which was the remnants from backing the Cat Treats quilt back in March of 2016, is my favourite. I love the cool soothing aqua naturistic feel of this print and it is called Robin in the Hood.

For the Red /Black/White combo, I found the remaining Out Foxed, also by Michael Miller Fabrics and combined it with red and black to give it a real Santa Claus feel! I purchased 6 yards of the Out Foxed in July 2017 and it was used as a backing for my Hello Foxy and Hello Foxy Mini quilts, as well as for the Fox among the Birches {in grey} quilt. Now it is finally going to be featured in the FRONT of a quilt!!!

I found this great tutorial for making full size pillowcases that has super easy and beautifully finished French seams. The tutorial is so well written, has great photos and step by step instructions. I simply adjusted the size of my pieces to suit a toddler size pillow.

My main fabric was cut depending on the print direction.

For the Robin in the Hood, I kept the fold of the fabric at the end of the pillowcase and sewed a seam along both the top and bottom, shown in red. Now my birds are all facing the right way up on the front and the back of the pillowcase. MAIN was cut 16" tall by 22 1/2" wide

For the Out Foxed, I kept the fold of the fabric at the top of the pillowcase and sewed a seam along both the end and bottom, shown in red. MAIN was cut 22 1/2" tall by 16" wide.

TODDLER SIZE:

MAIN - 45" x 16" OR 22 1/2" x 32"
COORDINATING - 10" x 32"
TRIM - 2" x 32"
