STOP: Stitch, Trim, Open & Press. To perform the STOP method, align a square (A) or rectangle (C) on the corner of the unit (B) with right sides facing together. Draw a diagonal line and sew along this diagonal line. Trim a ¼” seam. Finger press the seam open and then press with a hot iron. Press all seams open to reduce bulk.

Step 1: Sew the Black (A) on the end of the White (B). Use the STOP method to add the Background (E) on the corner of the White (F) and the White (P). Sew the units together.

Step 2: Use the STOP method to add the White (E) to the Background (L) and Orange (K). Sew the Black (D) between the Orange (C) and (G). Use the STOP method to add the Background (T). Sew the units together.

Step 3: Use the STOP method to add the Background (Z) to the White (Z).

Step 4: Use the STOP method to add the White (N) to the Black (M) then to add the White (E) and (P) to make the WING. Use the STOP method to add the Background (S) to the White (U). Sew the White (R) to the front of the WING. Sew the White (U) on top. Use the STOP method to add the Background (W). Sew the bottom unit on and then use the STOP method to add the Background (V).

Step 5: Sew the last two units made together. Use the STOP Method to add the Background (T). Along with the Background (X) and (Y), sew the units together.

Wow, Lorna, you have done it again. Another awesome adorable block. I will be sewing this pelican block. We have pelicans on several of our rivers here in western Idaho, on the Payette River by Cascade, and on the Bruneau River in Owyhee County. Thank you for your generosity. May it garner you much success. Jane

Are the cutting instructions for the orange fabric found somewhere else? I can't find that part. My kids want a mini quilt for their room. :D

What a cute block! A lady at my large quilt guild brought her finished giraffe quilt for show-n-tell. I knew as soon as I saw it, that it was your pattern. Lots of oohs & aahs over the quilt.
